A growing numbers of students and fans started following the program post 2011, including myself.

There's a lot of "tu ruins everything they touch", "they get special treatment", "just you wait!" comments around here from the older crowd. It seems like more than just your standard rivalry hate.

My question, is this just typical TexAgs whining and complaining (about a team who historically is pretty good), or is there some grounded logic in these claims?

Yes, the call-reversal from trashing the field is an example, but that's just one incident this year.

To answer your questions, in order: No, Yes.

Ask this again, is it typical for an enthusiastic fan base to get pissed when they're team isn't winning? Did you play competitive sports?

There is a long history of questionable calls in this rivalry. One being a certain roughing the passer call.

Some of it is tin-foil hat syndrome.

BUT you cannot deny that tu is a media darling that gets special treatment from networks like ESPN.

Others will point to how tu handled themselves in the SWC and Big XII - including the creation of the LHN.

Not sure the rule but it looks like the ball hit out of bounds with a second left.

Been some questionable calls over the years but this is not one of them.
There was clearly 1 if not 2 seconds left when the ball hit out of bounds. Even without a side by side replay the naked eye can see that.

Correct. This was right call and example of a QB who usually played fairly smart being incredibly lucky!!!!!! A tiny bit more air and game over. Really poor play by QB and totally lucked out. If it went other way the QB should have been hammered for such a thoughtless play!
Nothing looks more foolish than tradition to those who have none.

It's not about calls, bad referees, winning or losing. It's about the underhanded, slimey, arrogance, better than you attitude and lack of respect for anyone but themselves. BTHO tu!

I went to Texas A&M from 2013-2017, but I didn't join TexAgs until April 2020. Some of the whining and complaining is overexaggerating, but there has been a long history of questionable calls in this rivalry. Also, you cannot deny that Texas is a media darling who gets special treatment from TV networks like ESPN. In addition, Texas has bullied the rest of the Big 12 and even created the Longhorn Network. That prompted Colorado, Nebraska, Missouri, and Texas A&M to leave the Big 12. Colorado joined the Pac-12 in 2011, and Nebraska joined the Big 10 in 2011. Missouri and Texas A&M joined the SEC in 2012.

Go back to 1963. This was before my life began but I believe they were #1 when they came to Kyle. We appeared to have sealed a massive upset with an interception in the back of the end zone, but nope. The refs ruled our guy out of bounds, sips go on to win that game and their first national title.

You'll truly begin to understand the rivalry when you understand it's only 20% football, and 80% everything else in the state. They are the proverbial "spoiled sister" who has everything handed to them for decades while you work for every single thing you've ever had.

When their system was developed (almost 20 years after we were established), the PUF/ permanent university fund (state oil revenues) was established, directing 75% of those funds to build their system. The A&M college received roughly 20%, while the remaining public institutions received a pittance of the remainder. Colleges and new campuses open, grants, endowments. Enough of an advantage for you?
Even then, most of us can deal with a spoiled sister… until they start bragging about it.

Now, imagine having an athletic conference centered on your state (SWC), wherein outliers from surrounding states eventually depart. Any school proving to be better at "the game" gets summarily buried (SMU early 80s; Jackie Sherrill after winning too many years in a row).

Then you decide to cobble together a larger conference (Big12) with a dying entity (Big 8), seating yourself squarely in the Chair position. That pesky female governor demands you include her school (Baylor) or she'll cut off that oil money of yours.
You offer to negotiate with the networks on behalf of the entire conference; yet when you return, you've landed your OWN network instead. Everyone else is held hostage; and "no, A&M, you can't build a new stadium that will make it the largest in the state." When the architects make it happen anyways, you promptly announce within a week the proposed expansion of the stadium in Austin to resume its "rightful spot".

Aggies have enough and depart in 2012, setting off the largest period of growth for our institution in a century. Sister pans the move as foolish, keeps other members hostage as the conference slips further back from relevance.

Fast forward to today, and imagine the other members being forced at gunpoint to attend Sister's Christmas party at her home. The TV is on, and somebody suddenly notices that they see Sister on the TV at an even BIGGER party down the street! That's what the Big12 just had to put up with; Sister left her own party that she designed from the ground up.

It was an ugly, codependent relationship for decades. I would've been happy to have only met them on the field in occasional bowl games. Our SEC brethren just invited the good looking, psychotic sister back to the table.

Now they all get to deal with her.

The official rules of the big 12 conference at the time clearly stated that the clock was not reviewable. That same season we lost an opportunity for a field goal before halftime on a similar play. The clock hit 0 when it should have stopped at 1. The refs ran off the field.

Because the rules clearly stated that the clock was not reviewable.

Except apparently they are for the sips.

Kind of like how no living football fan at any level had ever seen a penalty called, marched off, and marked ready for play, then taken back after a 5 minute delay for trashing the field.

I grew up in Nebraska and began hating Texas when they insisted that the Big XII championship be held in Dallas every year. The hate deepened when I heard Brent Musburger sing "I feel good!" when Texas QB James Brown completed a 4th down pass late in the game to secure a victory over Nebraska. And deepened further when Colt McCoy threw the ball away as the clock expired, yet they were given a phantom second to beat the Huskers again. I attended A&M from 1987-1992 and won't go into the list of additional reasons to hate Texas. This game nauseates me. I know that God doesn't get involved with things like football games, but that hasn't stopped me from asking.

There was an irrationality about Texas in the last years A&M was in the Big 12. So many students and alumni thought going to the SEC was going to magically transform the football program over a few years:
  • We would escape the perceived dominance of Texas in the Big 12 and Texas' dominance in recruiting.
  • A&M would be the sole university in the State playing in the SEC and recruits would gravitate to us.
  • By playing the best teams in the U.S. our program would rise to their level.
  • The fan base and TexAgs badmouthed Baylor and were shocked when Baylor punched back and threatened a law suit.
  • The fan base badmouthed Texas and were shocked when Texas said they weren't going to play us in football any more.
  • We bragged on local radio stations A&M would scoreboard Texas only to lose at home in our final game with Texas.

It is not clear how much TexAgs initiated and drove the issue of leaving the Big 12 for the SEC. It may have been a good financial decision for the Program; however, I never wanted us to leave the Big 12 and I was disappointed to see so many fans polishing the brass on the SEC bandwagon.

Now, Texas and Oklahoma are in the SEC. Texas is having a banner year and has only one loss while an Oklahoma team with an abysmal record just totally dominated an SEC powerhouse, Alabama.
