You could easily win on Saturday

I'm so glad this rivalry is back it's great for football and for the state. You have a real chance to win this game. In my opinion, this is not a particularly strong Texas team, and there's a possibility it could fall apart on Saturday. Ewers doesn't throw the deep ball well, and he lacks toughness. His playing style is cautious, and the play-calling reflects that, relying heavily on bubble screens to compensate for the lack of a strong power running game.

Ewers is not very mobile and can get rattled easily. If we can't establish a running game, it's going to be a long night. While Texas' defense has been excellent, it can't be expected to carry the team every single game. Eventually, something has to give.

Texas is beatable. For the reasons you mentioned.

It's a long shot for the Aggies to do it.

But why are you here?

Looks like a cold, windy and possibly rainy game. No idea what to expect other than I know the 12th Man won't be affected by it.

After over a decade of going without the real thing they're gonna being sawing em off so hard the stadium collapses, which is probably a forfeit but still a moral victory

Hey Law - been a minute but have seen you post here before.

I've been watching your QB play and do agree that it's probably one of the weaker parts of your team, but your skill position speed can easily make up for it.

In the Georgia game I noticed they covered the screens with speed and came at the QB's, was very effective, but also notice since they have done a superb job getting the ball into the speedsters hands.

If we can tackle those guys quickly, before they get up to speed, we should be quite competitive. If we miss tackles on those guys, we are gonna give up big yardages.

I think the key to the game will be YAC on those screens. If we tackle, we are good. If yall get past first defender, watch out.

You going to the game?

OP is right.

This game sets up perfectly against the sips. We stink, yet we have potential.

We've lost our last two games against teams with a pulse.

The sips make the playoff no matter what, and stand to be better off by NOT winning.

The fact that we're still in the hunt for an SEC Championship with one game left to play is the most NON Aggie reality imaginable after the last 3 games we've played.

All the ethereal forces point to a very difficult time for the sips. We'll see if the physical realm outweighs it.

I honestly don't see it playing out well for Texas in the upcoming game against A&M. Even if our wide receivers manage to get behind your defensive backs, Quinn Ewers is unlikely to capitalize. Here's a telling stat: among starting quarterbacks, Ewers has the lowest average depth of target in the country at just 6.7 yards. On deep passing plays, Ewers is averaging 9.7 yards per attempt, which would rank near the bottom among SEC quarterbacks. With the right defensive scheme, Texas A&M's defensive front can give Ewers fits, just like Georgia did. A&M's defensive line has the talent to exploit these same issues. If A&M's pass rush shows up it could be another long night for the Longhorns.

Maybe not before all the upsets yesterday.

But now - YES. Unless they are blown out by the Aggies.

A "normal" loss to Texas A&M and they are in - possibly even hosting a first round game.

I think you're right about the importance of quick and sure tackling. The two most consistent offensive players for the Longhorns have been TE Gunnar Helm and WR Matthew Golden. By "consistent," I mean the players who have consistently bailed out Quinn Ewers and kept him from losing games. The Texas offensive line can dominate against an average defensive line, but most SEC defensive lines with the exception of Florida'shave managed to hold their own.

I wish we still had a Ricky Williams on the roster. A player like that could control the tempo and punish defenses in a way that would open up the rest of the offense. I'm also sick and tired of Sark constantly relying on a finesse game instead of throwing the ball downfield. All his misdirection plays and bubble screens are too cute for my taste. I prefer power football and a strong vertical passing game.

This game will come down to the Aggie offense against the Texas defense. I don't see Texas scoring a lot of points unless they absolutely dominate in the run game, which is a longshot. But if Texas can spy Reed and force him to throw, they could get some short fields like Georgia did against them.

I don't know what type of backs Texas has, but most of our struggles against the run have been against large, power backs. I feel like Texas's backs aren't that big, but I haven't watched much of them. Early in the season, it seemed like we did well defending against plays to the sidelines, like WR screens. We need to find that again. Getting the Ewers is key. A couple of hits early, and he gets rattled. I think we can get to him and cause a couple of turnovers.

Also, it seemed like Texas struggled a bit against the zone read of Arkansas. They also struggled a bit against the Vandy QB, who is very mobile. I am hoping that is a sign we should be able to move the ball against them. One key will be Reed's accuracy. He has to be accurate. Texas DBs are very good at taking advantage of bad passes.

I just don't think Texas is prepared for a night game at Kyle Field in late November with the Ags fighting for a playoff spot. That place is gonna be absolutely seismic. The crowd will measure on the Richter scale. The seniors were in elementary school the last time Texas played one of these. This game is gonna make Texas-OU look like a JV scrimmage.

We gave up 40+ to both SC and Auburn. Have you seen our secondary? Our DL is MIA lately, getting no QB pressure. Ewers is good/accurate enough to light us up.

The classic Aggie game would be actually building an early lead by getting pressure on Ewers early, knocking him out of the game, only to have Arch "The Messiah" Manning come in and run/throw all over us leading the sips to a heartbreaking comeback win, a la 2011.

Ewers is still hurting from his abdominal strain in week 3, not to mention his ankle. He hasn't been the same since coming back from the earlier injury.

If he has time, he can still pick you apart. But he hates getting hit and that affects his timing, touch and footwork. Also, 4-2-5 irritates the hell out of him. He hates the three high safety look. If you can get pressure with four, you can make him look bad.

Also, I wouldn't be surprised to see Arch against A&M. Quinn played the whole game against UK because it was his last game at DKR. But if Texas can lose at Kyle and still sneak into the playoff, Quinn should sit.

I agree with OP. I just do not have faith we can stop the run. This will be the key star of game. Aggies stop the run game and they win. You don't stop the run game and they win by 2 TDs plus

The truth is if y'all were smart you would throw that game and avoid the conference championship game entirely.

I understand the whole rivalry thing and all. But Texas winning out in the playoffs is far more important than beating A&M. It's really an insignificant game for you.

If you're playing for a natty no one cares if you won you championship game. A&M doesn't have the team to legitimately compete in that realm. But Texas does.

If y'all were smart you'd mail it in. And just focus on the playoffs.

Was waving dildos wrong? Should I have not done that? I tell you I gotta plead ignorance on this thing because if anyone had said anything to me at all when I first started here that that sort of thing was frowned upon, you know, 'cause I've lived in Austin a long time, and I tell you people do that all the time.

You are a pretty sad excuse for a CFB fan, on a rivals board trashing your supposed team that is 10-1 and most likely already in the CFP. Like it was asked earlier, why are you even here?

It's a strange year and kinda fun. It's really hard to tell how good everybody is.Oregon and tOSU look real, I guess. I think the next three or four teams are elite but vulnerable. The TV announcers don't help because everybody supposedly has an elite DL with first rounders. Silly.

I think you underestimate the Texas running game. Wisner runs with power. Blue is a lightning bolt but he needs to take care of the ball.

Georgia was clever in dealing with our reliance on running to the left. They killed it. I was surprised we had no counter. I don't think A&M has the depth of athletes to shut the run down.

The wild card is Reed. If he can improvise while avoiding errors, the Aggies can score. Reed must be locked in and protect the ball. If he gambles on passes as he's scrambling, Texas can pick him off.

Again, it's a strange and interesting year. If your line wakes up to what was expected of them, they could create havoc, cause turnovers, and trigger a rout. Just as Reed is the key on offence, the A&M line is the key on defense.

Should be fun and tense. Here's to no injuries and everybody playing the best they can.

I've been a Texas fan my entire life and I don't have a disgusting attitude. I've always tried to be honest and objective on Texags. Occasionally I've been drawn into the embarrassing ad hominem garbage, but that's been rare. We're not all jerks. Even those of us who don't have kids at A&M (although I do).

They're definitely beatable. I don't think they're the 3rd best team in the conference, much less the nation (I also don't think we're anywhere near 15). However, we haven't shown nearly enough discipline this year to handle the eye candy and misdirection they'll use, and I can't imagine it changing now. I'd love to be wrong but I fully expect Bateman to break everybody's heart in this one.
