• He's been practicing for some time now. He's likely ready to go.
• He needs to knock off some rust before next week. So getting him a few touches now makes sense.

Even if he played, it wouldn't change their game plan or ours. It's fun to think about the idea that we would have a package for him catching the ball out of the backfield, but we would be able to use Bussey that way now. Daniels is a legit RB who has it all. Put Smith in on throwing downs and let AD eat the rest of the time. Owens hasn't been the X factor some are romanticizing him to be in the past. Why would he be now after coming off an injury? Definitely a threat and great for depth but not the answer some act like. I'm sure he is ready to play though. IMHO there is ZERO chance he plays this week or next.

I wouldn't touch it with a ten ft poll in a close game. Once the game is out of reach either way i wouldn't see an issue if he's 100% healthy. Might even be smart to play him to knock the rust off in live game action .

Wouldn't he redshirt even if he does play? I was thinking you had to play in over 1/3 of the games or something like that not to be eligible for a redshirt. I suppose it's still possible for him to play in as many as 4-5 games but if that happens we ended the season really ,

Yes, no matter what he's redshirting. We only have 2 regular season games left and the NCAA has made the rule that post season doesn't count against games played. So even if he played Saturday and all the way through the national title game he'd still get a redshirt.

That's what I thought. Would be a beautiful thing for him to play great from here on and have a major positive impact without even using a yr of eligibility. I still wouldn't play him in a close game at this point though. He had some ball security issues last yr if memory serves and he would likely have some rust to knock off.

I suppose if either the Aub or tu game were going sideways and he was the only rb available with the juice needed you might let him roll provided he's 100%.

Aren't there still limitations on the number of players that can travel to an away game? If that's the case, you wouldn't want to waste a spot on someone that probably can't play physically anyway.

That's a position we don't have much available depth at tho . If he's healthy and Daniels were to go down you are down to Dinota and an emergency backup with zero experience. If he's not 100 % healthy that's a completely different beast of course.

The reasons not to:

a) Maybe he's not 100% still ready with full speed, and able to make cuts etc..

b) It's highly unrealistic to think he's in game shape or isn't going to be very rusty.


I want him to play, and I think he might start getting reps vs Texas but a lot of people seem to be thinking we are going to plug him in and get a full on replacement for Moss immediately. That's just not going to happen. Best case scenario is he gets a few snaps vs Texas, we win that game, he gets a few more snaps in the SECCG, we get into the playoff and we start to see the Owens we always hoped to see some time in round one or two of the playoffs if we make it that far. That is the absolute best case scenario and even that might be a bit unlikely or unrealistic.
