On Internet Message Boards, the UT-Texas A&M Rivalry Never Went Away

For the olds who don't understand the internets/ don't know how to get past a subscription firewall, use the Reader app.

Good stuff all around.

Just disable JavaScript in your browser. You can do it by modifying your browser settings (google it) or by using a browser extension such as "Toggle JavaScript".

Just be sure to re-enable JavaScript when you're done.

Here are some digs at us from the article. Our digs were lame I must say. I think the best they put was us calling them tea sippers. Really? If we had good ones I would post them but they were nothing special. In case you didn't hate them enough...here you go...

"Here I am in my forties," said one Longhorn. "I'm a company president, and I just cannot get enough of trolling Aggies. I love it. It's my favorite thing to laugh at. It just brings me joy."

On Orangebloods, A&M is taunted as UT's "little brother" and is almost exclusively referred to as "****," always singular, always intentionally misspelled with a 'y,' and always lowercase. Remarked one Aggie, "There are guys on our side that have MBAs and PhDs, and they let 'little brother' and lowercase '****' drive them bonkers." One Orangebloods poster recently objected to the "****" nickname, saying that the lack of respect was behavior more befitting of the Aggies themselves. A user named "Jefferyb31" responded: "Clearly you come from an **** family or are married to an **** and are either an **** troll or a self-hating Longhorn fan who secretly roots for those sheep humpers."

I asked a Texas Ex to describe the A&M commenters on TexAgs. They replied with a short dissertation on how the other side lives. "TexAgs is this bastion of hardcore, die-hard Aggies, and you've got two different sets within that," the Longhorn explained. "You've got the 'sunshine pumpers,' which are the fans who think every week they're going to win by fifty, the coach is the greatest to ever live, the quarterback is going to win the Heisman, and are perpetually believing the Aggies are on the cusp of greatness. And it never, obviously, happens. Then, you have the 'pot bangers.' That's the other side of the coin. Those are the Aggies that have what's called 'battered Aggie syndrome.' Everyone knows about that'B.A.S.' They're so sick of falling on their faces that they've just come to terms that failure is inevitable." The Longhorn laughed. "It's like catnip for me."

I was given a subscription to Texas Monthly for the past couple of years. I would NEVER Pay for another TM subscription..... probably 75% of the pages in every edition are advertising ! The rest are pushing political or social agendas. Same is true for many other magazines; again, that's why I don't subscribe. And why I don't need an app to read them.

The ONLY valid ANNUAL goal for ALL Aggie Sports is a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!

What drew you to the Forty Acres Scholars Program (FASP)?
Growing up, every Saturday during football season, I would share queso and brisket with a big group of Tex-pats who had gotten together to watch their Longhorns play football from Los Angeles. We'd rotate houses and who was manning the smoker. As the years went by, the group grew larger. Any Longhorn was welcome. I remember the morning of Texas-OU one year, Dad and I were picking up breakfast burritos for everyone (unfortunately, breakfast tacos are hard to come by in L.A.). We were, of course, dressed head-to-toe in burnt orange. As we waited, we heard, "Hook 'em horns!" We turned around, saw a stranger dressed exactly the same way, and started talking to this newfound Longhorn. We invited him over to watch with us. He did, and he comes by every weekend since. Growing up and seeing the huge hearts and immense pride shared by Texas Exes across the country, it was impossible not to want to become a part of that community myself.
What do you want prospective students to know about the University of Texas?
A couple of years ago, I was in Germany with a friend who goes to Michigan. He saw a man wearing a Wolverines shirt, so he went up to the stranger and said, "Go blue!" The man just replied, "Ok..." and walked away. A couple hours later, I saw a man wearing burnt orange. I hollered a "Hook 'em!" at him. We spent the rest of the day with him and his wife, and later, they bought us dinner.
It's not hyperbole to say that there is no school in the country with a community as proud of its school as the University of Texas. Being on campus has made it easy to see why: professors are world class and approachable, Austin is a special city with so much to do, and then, of course, there are the football games. I could go on, but let me just say that anything you could possibly want from a college can be found on the 40 Acres. And even when you're awayeven if you're an ocean awayyou might just tell someone "Hook 'em" and score yourself a free dinner. College kids love free food, right?
