What's the latest here, insiders?

Owens will not play this season. Been stated multiple times all year long. Only exception would be a deep playoff run.

I am curious about Bisontis, though.

yeah word is that Owens has been practicing for a few weeks. Doubt that means he is game-time ready, but he must not be far from it.

Bisontis was never ruled out for the season so he should be back for sip at least.

My brain went right to Nate Bargatze narrating this and I made myself laugh...

If Owens is going to play against tu at all, I'd expect him to get some work this weekend.

No way you take a kid that hasn't played all year long and throw him out there in that game with no live reps before hand.

The earliest Owens would play is Texas game. So if we played 4 more games, he could still use a redshirt year.

I think it's pretty rare that a player has a serious injury, misses basically an entire season and then comes back and instantly starts tearing it up.

If Owens does come back for any games this season, he likely will get limited action and will probably be rusty as hell. I wouldn't put much stock in the possibility that he becomes the key to winning in a playoff run.

What do you mean?

Getting hurt in football and coming back and doing well happens all the time.

The appropriate first reply from Nate as GW would be "everything. All of it."

Nope could've played up to 3 before TX

Ha

If you play more than 5 games you lose the redshirt.

Texas
SEC championship.
Quarter finals
Semi final
National championship

Or is there a rule that postseason games do not count on this one?

In August, the NCAA announced a blanket rule (17.11. 6.2 Annual Exemptions) that will exempt postseason games from counting toward a player's four allotted games in a given season. The new rule went into effect immediately for the 2024 college football season.

IF Owens makes it back it will be for playoffs. Elko has been specifically vague about possibly returning for a chance to play at the end of the season. He may have actually said this though from what I remember.

Owens and Bisontis officially listed as Doubtful. This give them a 25% chance of seeing the field per the rules.

That almost makes it sound like they need just 1 more week if you overthink it.

Dammit!

For Auburn?

Hasn't Owens always been listed as "Out for Season"? So that's a development right?

No. The lowest status is "Out" which is what Moss currently is, for example.

Right, before today Owens was always listed this year as being "Out". This is a significant development

I don't believe anyone ever said what the Bisontis injury was. It looked like a high ankle sprain which it typically a 4-6 week injury. I could see him being available for emergency use this weekend and start next weekend.

I'd like to see Jaylen Henderson finally able to come back, if needed. He was doubtful all the way back against Mississippi State

Reuben Owens and Chase Bisontis improve from "out" to "doubtful" for the road game at Auburn. That being said, "doubtful" according to the SEC's reporting policy means there is approximately a 25% chance the player will be available to play. Hopefully, their statuses get upgraded from "doubtful" to "questionable" for the Texas game.
