Do any of you have the no-call Auburn horse collar on Johnny?

Didn't Johnny return the favor by breaking the 30yr old total offense record against Auburn??

That may have been the year before - in 2012. Total offense by the Ags that day - 671 yds.

The horse collar tackle was in the game at Kyle in 2013. Johnny was later (? or was it before) injured in the game - coming down hard on his throwing shoulder near the goal line. He stayed in the game as I recall, but couldn't throw the ball very well - and continued to hamper his throwing for several games after that. We did have 602 yds in 2013, but Auburn went for 615. Aggie D was terrible in 2013.

17 was running for his life. Not many got even that close to prime Johnny Football.

I still can't believe that that horse collar was not called

That was a textbook horse collar and the ref was standing right there

Either he wasn't looking at the old or that crew was corrupt

No way you don't throw that flag unless one of those two things were true

The irony of the no call was that Auburn did get called for a horse collar in the MNC game against FSU. It may have even been on the game winning drive.

Was it his shoulder or hand this game? I seem to remember he was out for 3 series or so and had he not been injured and had we gotten the penalty here we would have definitely won that game

This game sticks out as a BAS moment because I think it was the nail in the coffin that season

Shoulder. And I think he only missed 1 series afterwards.

Johnny Manziel injury: Texas A&M QB returns after hurting right shoulder - SBNation.com

Not sure if the horse collar was before or after the shoulder injury. The article says we scored a FG after Joekel came in for Manziel on that possession to go up by 10.

Ya...it was 2012...I was there. Johnny destroyed Auburn. I had Auburn fans around me saying...

The Johnny horse collar was a terrible missed call. It was also infuriating watching Myles Garrett, a couple years later, getting straight up tackled by the Auburn LT over and over and the refs refusing to throw a flag.

In terms of blatant officiating malpractice, that no call is toward the top of the list. It's up there next to Myles Garrett getting tackled virtually every play against Auburn years later. Even the announcer was saying they were getting away with major holding.

An both of those are right up there with the no call when Donald Sloan drove in at the end of the game against ucla and the bruin player's hand was clutched around slosn's forearm in midshot

I think we're all starting to understand why BAS is so rampant...if we didn't already.

Not only the head linesman that was standing right there, but the umpire, back judge, the referee, side judge and every other zebra should have thrown flags on that play it was so obvious and egregious.

The horse collar was right at the end of the game. We were driving, down by 4 or whatever. IIRC, that was a 3rd down play that should have resulted in a first down for us on about the 10ish yard line, but no call. Incomplete pass on 4th down for a turnover on downs and Auburn kneeled a couple of times to run out the clock.

Which makes the no call that much worse, because it was absolutely a game changing call that all but ensured Auburn was going to win.

I met a guy a month or so ago who played on that Auburn team. He admitted that they got a ton of calls or no calls to go their way that day.

Ah, I see the drive chart now

  • Drove ball down to the 2 yd line, Johnny comes out, settle for FG
  • Auburn TD
  • Series with Joekel, punt
  • Auburn TD
  • Johnny back in, TD
  • Auburn TD
  • Johnny Horse Collar, turnover on downs

So many points missed without him in, plus not one defensive stop. still heartbreaking to this day

Only thing worse than the no call was jackass Gary Danielson gaslighting saying it wasn't a horse collar.

Was so glad to not have to listen to that asshat anymore.

If the horse collar was called, would the Miracle at Jordan-Hare and the Kick Six still occur on back to back weeks?

Probably not.

Also don't care, a win and us in the running for a playoff would have been much, much better.

A&M already lost to Bama before the Auburn game, Bama would have been in the SEC CG and CFP playoff, probably would beat FSU for the NC, and A&M would probably not hire Jimbo. Circle of life or something

Yep that's why this game was the nail in the coffin, after losing to Bama we needed Bama to get two losses and us to win out. After losing to Auburn, I didn't expect Auburn to get super lucky and end up in the championship, but our path to the SEC Champ game was dead in the water and so the Natty dream quickly died

2013 Auburn was the single luckiest team in the history of CFB. That it finally caught up to them in the national championship game and they lost to FSU and Jimbo Fisher is karma's way of settling things out.

Uh…if you had to show a video or picture of a horse collar tackle for training purposes/explanation then the Johnny horse collar would be the one. He was clearly grabbed from directly behind the neck/back collar area and pulled completely backwards.
