The playoff is going to add up to (5) tough games to the season stretching into late January.
This leaves little recovery time for the NFL talent playing in conference championships and playoff runs.
Less than a month to get ready for the NFL.
Senior Bowl - Feb 1
NFL Combine - Late Feb - March

The players got paid but some of them are going to suffer diminished returns due to injury of an extended season. The players are selling a piece of the player life at a discount in this new era.
ESPN has extract its pound of flesh and most of the best players don't know it.

The players are getting paid. These five games can't be more difficult than five games playing an NFL schedule

I think what he is saying, is that these extra games at the end of the season could negatively impact when they get drafted (if they get injured), leading to a lower first NFL contract

How much money do college football players have to be paid before bowl games/playoff games become part of the job and not something they can skip because they think there's more money at the next level?

This

I look at it all as a part of paying your dues and training for a career that a lot of people can only dream about that pays you millions upon millions

If you don't like it then don't play football and aspire to be in the nfl

Go get an education and join the workforce like everyone else

Your privileged enough to have been given a gift to do something like this so just do what it takes to make that dream come true
If that means playing a few more games, so be it

They played in even potentially more games in a season in high school with the playoffs, and the NFL has 17 games in a season without the playoffs.

The college young men will live if they possibly have to play a similar number of games. Being a star in the CFP could boost players' draft stock too.

How many teams will play 5 extra games. Most will play no more than they ordinarily would. But 2 teams will play an extra 2 maybe 3 games. But compared to last couple years, they may play 1 or 2 extra.

Heck, how many high schoolers play extra games in playoffs.

But it all takes a toll. Think about teams like the patriots, Astros or late 90's Yankees making deep runs in playoffs year over year. Over time, guys may play an extra chunk of a year in playoff ball. That does take a toll but that is life in the business.

Feels like an actuary could give an exact number based on a players projected draft status.

NFL players are underpaid in the playoffs.

Well, the same thing could happen during the fall football season.......is what it is, no matter when.

Great, do it before the season starts. Arrive at a fair salary, and lock that player in to play for the entire season, including post-season.

I've accepted that amateur college athletics is a thing of the past, but if we're going to pay players, they should be obligated to play.

Then on top of that, for guys who are not locks to be taken in the first round, they lose out on time to prep for the combine...a lot of times, guys get in certain shape to run the 40 to boost their draft stock and then add weight after the combine to be in better football shape.

Kind of stupid that it matters, but it does and I assume that less combine prep time will adversely impact certain guys' draft stock. Not that it really matters that much if you are already making a ton of money in college and will still make a ton of money in the NFL, but it will probably impact some guys and it would not surprise me if we get to the point where players hold out of CFP games if they expect their team to lose or care more about their draft stock.

One of my pet peeves. These aren't "kids". College players are men, yes young men. But not kids anymore.

Off my soap box.

The NFL can and will move the senior bowl and combine if it starts making an impact.

The NFL wants college football to succeed and exist; it is free advertising and brand building for their players.

Let me get this straight. You are worried about players not "being ready" for the NFL by playing a few extra high level football games.

What do you think they do that gets them "ready" normally. If we got rid of that silly combine would kids who have been playing football since grade school somehow not be ready?

Just think how many years can be added to a players career if they go play for the cowboys where there are no pesky extended playoff runs each NFL season

I'm sure a few players will be negatively impacted by it. But it will probably help just as many. There are always a few college basketball players who shoot up draft boards after an excellent tourney run. I could see something similar happening in football, particularly among any Big 12, ACC and group of 5 conference players who look good on the big stage against elite competition.

Oh how wonderful if all the NIL players would skip the playoffs for the sake of their NFL careers.

Then at least the playoff games would be what college athletics is all about! YEA!!! How enjoyable that would be!

They are young and should be able to handle it. The better players are already making a pile of cash. If they get hurt, most will still make a pile of cash at the next level. A lot of people get hurt at work, in a variety of professions. Football is just a game.

If I'm a projected high pick for next year's draft, I'm sitting out. There is no pay for play in the nil contracts.
