Oregon's is reasonable. And Boise State turned out to be legit with a Heisman level RB.

The Big 10 plays 9 conference games. That may be the reason why the OOC opponents are not as strong.

And the SEC mandates that you play one OOC team be a P4 team. Granted some scheduled lower tier P4 teams like KSU and NC State but that is no different than having Rutgers, Northwestern, or Maryland on the schedule. Not to mention there are only about 4 of the 18 are worth anything, while the SEC goes at least 8 of 16 quality teams.

BIG Schedule =/= SEC Schedule

But half the teams, especially with so many of the recent add-ons (Maryland, Rutgers, etc.) are pure garbage.
How many teams are they up to? 18? 20? There are maybe 4 teams that are good to great this year and maybe 3 or 4 decent teams and then the rest are crap. Indiana is 9-0 and hasn't played a team with a pulse yet.

Never said that the extra conference game makes the Big 10 schedule equal to the SEC. I was just trying to provide a possible explanation on why the Big 10 doesn't schedule a big time OOC opponent.

Michigan had Texas in 2024 and 2025.
Ohio State has Texas starting in 2026 and 2027.

You could think of Oregon as Ohio State's big OOC game this year and next since they weren't originally part of the Big 10.

But yeah it's pretty random.

This

Despite what the media and college football people want you to believe, that the big10 and sec are the two kings of college football, the sec from top to bottom is a much better, deeper league

Big10 has a few really good teams then a bunch of meh while the sec has like 8-10 really good and good teams that would all be 0 or 1 loss teams playing a big10 schedule, then some meh

Notice that the 4 best teams in the big10 only lose to the other 3 really good teams because the rest of the league pretty much stinks

This is what the CFP committee is recommending in order to optimize your playoff ranking.

And after you take away the self-selected P4 OOC game, this is what the SEC teams have for their weakest 3 OOC game:

Texas: Colorado State, UTSA, UL Monroe
Tennessee: Chattanooga, Kent St, UTEP
Alabama: W. Ky, South Florida, Mercer
Ole Miss; Furman, MTSU, Ga Southern
Georgia: Tenn Tech, UMass, GA Tech
Texas A&M: McNeese, Bowling Green, New Mexico State

College Football isn't a level playing field for everything, but would anyone trade SEC money and schedule to join any other conference.....maybe the Big Ten...maybe? I'm guessing nobody reasonable would trade A&M's place in the SEC with Baylor or Texas Tech or NC State or Tulane just to get an "easier route" to the playoffs.

The complaint from true fans of football should be a question as to why 25% of the schedule is the contract game self-scheduled cupcakes for these P4 schools that bring in millions in revenue.

And the 2nd should be a question as to why Bowl games are part of the 2nd round of the playoffs and not home university stadiums.

Indianas SoS is 100. Worst by a mile for a p4.

100 out of 134 total teams in the fbs.

Them, #93 Utah, #89 unc, #88 Syracuse, #82 Cal. These are the only p4 teams in the 80+ region of SoS.

What a joke ranking by the CFP... place is a shell of its former self.

Personally I rather play an SEC schedule. Sure it's harder to make the playoffs but I rather see more exciting matchups each week. Most of us had that ND game circled since the day it was announced. It's awesome that we play big time games like and everyone that loves college football watched that game. If we had won we wouldn't be complaining about how others didn't schedule a big time OOC team. I like the mentality of playing anyone, anywhere, anytime. Just my opinion.

Pate already argued all this preseason. Basically laughing at the Big 10 trying to push the SEC to play 9 games. He said of course they do bc SEC games are a lot different than most Big 10 games. Indiana having a season like this is just more proof of this.

That is not the point at all. I am aware of the pitiful excuse the B1G uses to not schedule anyone out of conference, I just think if the CFP committee is doing their job, they should be penalized for it. Obviously there is no penalty, since the committee seems to be using a "you are what your record says you are" justification for ranking a bunch of 1-loss teams that haven't played anybody in the top 5 of the rankings.

If the committee was doing its job. Oregon would get credit for a tougher schedule and stay at #1, but Ohio State would be several spots lower, and Penn State and Indiana several spots below that. However, they are all grouped together at the top, which means the CFP committee is basically screaming at the top of its lungs for teams to play as few difficult games as possible, as long as you have 1 or 2 on your schedule somewhere, if you want to be ranked higher. I just think that is a terrible approach.

B1G 10 is a paper tiger. Outside of Oregon and MAYBE OSU, the conference is weaker than the big xii

Correct

Indiana would be the same as Vandy this year if they were in the SEC at this time.

It's funny to watch all the constant talk about whether Indiana is a good team. The real talk should be the Big 10 is a bad conference and Indiana winning just shows how bad it is.

They also get to schedule Purdue, Maryland, Rutgers, and Northwestern which makes their out of conference look like murderers row.

The B1G is a lot closer in quality to the ACC and B12 than it is to the SEC. From Connelly's latest SP+ conference rankings:

1. SEC: 14.1 average rating (33.1 offense, 19.1 defense)
2. Big Ten: 7.5 average rating (27.1 offense, 19.6 defense)
3. ACC: 5.4 average rating (30.7 offense, 25.3 defense)
4. Big 12: 4.9 average rating (29.7 offense, 24.9 defense)
5. Sun Belt: -7.1 average rating (24.5 offense, 31.5 defense)
6. AAC: -7.6 average rating (25.0 offense, 32.7 defense)
7. Mountain West: -8.8 average rating (24.1 offense, 32.6 defense)
8. Conference USA: -13.4 average rating (19.0 offense, 32.4 defense)
9. MAC: -13.9 average rating (19.7 offense, 33.6 defense)

One thing I absolutely think the expanded playoff has done is reduce the desire to schedule difficult non-conference games. I wouldn't schedule anybody difficult if I didn't have to.

Writers' poll, coaches' poll, committee and all conferences other than SEC over value fewer losses and mostly ignore any meaningful measurement of strength of schedule.

Hope that irritates…

The Big 10 has gotten the most teams in the basketball tournament the past several years. And has the fewest sweet 16 teams.

This is going to be the same in the expanded football playoff. They deserve only 3 teams at the most and who knows if those three are any good bc they play no one and their conference sucks.

I understand let it all play out but the CFP committee even having the audacity to have four teams from the Big 10 in the top 8 at this time is beyond idiotic.

It's a complete joke that Indiana is in the top 5. I honestly don't know why teams play hard schedules anymore when teams like Indiana get rewarded for playing the schedule they did this year.

There are four good teams in the Big 10. The rest of the teams suck.

From the Sagarin rankings strength of schedule:

1. Georgia
3. Florida
4. Alabama
5. LSU
6. South Carolina
8. Kentucky
9. Oklahoma
18. Texas A&M

33. Penn St.
46. Oregon
58. Ohio St.
76. Indiana

Imagine when the SEC goes to 9 games.
