I like the high energy dance music at games, but wish that we didn't play songs with lyrics that contain sexual innuendo. There are too many kids at the games for that to be played.

Yeah I'd say it's just an expression of the deep-seated cultural ambiguity that Louisianans feel, being both so different from the rest of the South and being a collection of so many different influences.

On the one hand that ambiguity gives them leeway to embrace catchy pieces of culture from the margin like STTDB. On the other hand, it means they have much weaker filtering of what they identify with, and overall end up with their fanbase's (well-renowned) trashy character.

As Aggies, we've experienced about as little collective ambiguity about our identity as any major university. It's a nice place to be. Look how many college programs have co-opted icons from our culture, such as "link with your neighbor & sing while swaying back & forth." (That one's almost as broadly copied as "Cameron Crazies" is in MBB). We had trending recruiting pics with players wearing cowboy hats 10? years before Deion Sanders ever remotely considered wearing one. Don't get me started about the NFL's attempt to co-opt the 12th Man. And now, in 2024, (despite the many justifications for BAS) we have unquestionable claims on **being** college football.

The point is, being secure in your identity pays off big in the long run.

Better off creating a singing chant and jumping to shake the stadium
