There's also a right and left end to go to or around, instead of hit the middle of the line. SC was ready for this play before it was even called!!!!

Been screaming this for the last three years. The 'Bush Push" Brotherly Shove" or whatever you want to call it works. line up some big guys in the backfield to push! Not that hard of a concept-blows my mind that teams all over the country continue to go shotgun on 3rd or 4th and 1.

If there was unlimited practice time every team would have this offensive package , just my WAG is coaches don't do it because they can't practice it and feel that drawing an illegal procedure penalty is more likely than picking up the first down

Awful call. That is the worst situation for Reed. Either hand it off to Moss or let Reed have a run/pass option

It is perplexing that football coaches do not understand the simple physics
principle of F= MA. Force = Mass x Acceleration. Trying to run a 180 lbs running back
from under center means that you're forfeiting both mass & acceleration.

Even if the QB was lined up in the shotgun position, the amount of acceleration he can generate before hitting the line of scrimmage is not that much greater than a 300 lbs lineman lined up in the I formation.

I would love to see Klein line up two 300 pounders in the I position to take advantage of Mass squared and blast away in these short yardage situations. A 230 lbs LB trying to fill the hole will get destroyed.

I'm on the "go for it" train, no issue with the call(s) at surface level. What gets me is the theater before you snap the ball. We are gonna do it, nope just kidding, no we are really gonna do it this time, just kidding, screw it lets do it. When we finally decided to snap the ball, no surge, delayed get off, etc. When lineman are in their stance for 30-40 seconds, it doesnt help them win. Just line up and go for it. Here we come, our guys are gonna beat your guys because we are bad a**es... ( a la Philly)

The knock on this is that you are using a guy that doesnt get reps and is at risk to put the ball on the ground. There is a reason you dont see this outside of youth/high school ball. The Fridge was an anomaly.

I'm not sure why anyone would have gone for the first one if they trusted their defense. You give the ball up there and it is very likely going to be at least a FG. Being the defensive guru that he is, maybe Elko knew that they weren't going to be able to stop their run game anyway so was doing his best to try to keep them off the field but didn't work. That's the only real explanation.

He threw the first haymaker, its that simple. Talk all week about how the winner will establish the LoS and one of the two (very talented) DLs would elevate etc. etc. It was aggressive, success would have been yuge... It is risky given that failure flips the script 180. If you want culture change, this is the path. My beef is with all the pre-snap games, just line up and run the rock!!

Also need to consider the opponent's defense, we knew, going into the game, that South Carolina's front 7 was really good.

NO..... we shouldn't be going for it on 4th and 1, especially from our own 30-yd line, unless we are really behind (e.g. 2+ TDs); or we're behind, and it's the last 2-4 minutes of the game. Absolutely STUPID play calling by Klein and I'm sure Elko approved it !

It was a ridiculous time to go for it. I know you wanna be all Dan Campbell/Billy Badass about it, "I believe in my team blah blah blah" but you just can't do it at that part of the field at that point of the game. My heart sunk when I saw us line up for that bc I knew exactly what was coming. That was 100% a punt situation

I was shocked our smart, defensive minded coach went for it twice from inside our 35 so early in the game. Plus we had already lost our hamming RB in Moss. Those two decisions cost us 10 points.

And then in his presser, Coach Elko says that's something we are going to do. Well, until we get another back like Miss or develop a Tush Push like the Philadelphia Eagles, then we are going to get stuffed again because we don't have a back with the mass and velocity to push a big pile of linemen a yard….when there is no hole.
