So the head of officials is going to decide if a kid is faking an injury? Sounds like a terrible plan.

Why handle this during the season? Seems like something that should be addressed in the off season.

This will end poorly, first time a kid really is hurt, sec thinks they are faking…lawsuits galore

I think it is easy. If a kid is really injured, you can't possibly assess the injury fully and let them back on the field in one play. They really should be sitting out a full series on whichever side of the ball they are on to make sure the trainers can make sure they are safe to go back in the game. Having to sit out 5-10 plays would put an end to most of the faking.

Why not add the following to the rules:
1) A player claiming injury may not return to the field until a change in possession occurs.
2) If a player enters the field and claims injury before a play is run. Then a timeout is charged. If no timeouts remain for assessment then they are assessed a 15 yard penalty.

This would probably eliminate a lot of fake injuries and can only be good for player safety if they are injured.

Edited for spelling

If they insist on addressing this mid-season, it seems like an across the board rule for injuries would be better than subjective assessment. For example, every injured player misses that series or 4 downs, etc. Every time I think Sankey can't make another incredbibly stupid decision, he does it again!

I'd say 10 times out of 10 you can tell it's a fake. Literally guys standing with hands on hips watching the sideline and taking a dive. I doubt we see any fines given out for something borderline. I know real cramps can strike at any time, but the fact they so frequently happen while staring at the coaches on the sideline is mighty convenient.

I'm just glad they aren't trying to assess penalties or anything in game and keeping it to a post game evaluation

This is such an easy fix, if you go down, your out the next 7 plays on your side of play. If it's legit, you should be out and be looked at anyway. If it's not, you don't play for a series-ish.

It's delaying games. Should have been addressed 2 off-seasons ago.

This is mainly about Kiffin and everyone knows.

This. If hurt, they need proper evaluation. If faking, they need proper deterrent.

This doesn't address the legitimate cramps, body shots, and ankle/knee twists that happen. Now those guys are supposed to ensure that they hobble off instead of cost their team time to get set of defense.

I'm actually happy with the post game review. Like the gif posted, the truly egregious ones are obvious. Fine the hell out of everyone involved in plays like that.

Forcing someone to sit out a number of plays or the rest of the drive gives motivation to play dirty and hurt opposing players.

Sometimes you're in pain for 20 seconds and then you're fine. Most of us are even like that at home.

The conference needs to be really careful how it proceeds with this.

If someone plays dirty, they get 15 or ejected.

? This will be done based on video review after the fact… so that scenario seems unlikely…

Situations like this where it is 100% obvious that the call came from the sideline to drop and fake an injury should bring down an absolute hammer on the coaching staff and program to make it so painful it never happens again. Something like suspending the player faking it for a full game, suspending the staff member or coach ordering the flop from the sidelines, taking away recruiting visits, and fining the program.

This is the kind of stuff They are referring to. It has to be this obvious for them to call anything.

And faking a cramp is really easy and probably doesn't need to sit out more than 1 play for a cramp.

The big reason they will not hand down a "number of plays" rule if you go down is that it incentivizes a player to stay on field when something is wrong. That could lead to worse injury.
