Just saw a video on Facebook of Elko giving the guys their Aggie rings. Awesome to see and leads me to my next question.

How many pounds of gold do you think are at Kyle Field every Saturday in the form of Aggie rings?
Give me the guy who shoots for excellence and fails over the guy who shoots for mediocrity and succeeds.

If I estimate around .35oz gold per ring from this thread, and maybe 50k rings in the audience (a lot of students, family, and visitors without rings), that rounds out to around 17,500 oz, or a little over half a ton of gold from Aggie rings.

I legitimately love nerds that figure out quirky things like this!!

What does that equate to in dollar value?

About tree-fiddy

According to Apmex, current spot is $2757/ounce. Rounded, that's about $50M in Aggie rings at a game per the above estimates

According to Google (assuming standard ounces of average 14K gold):

$25,480,744.65 or enough to pay just 1/3 of Jimbo's buyout.

If you melt all the gold in the world down, you would make a cube the size of an MLB infield

Need to factor in an adjustment for karat differences.

Either way, that's allot of gold.

If this is true, and I'm too lazy to look it up and verify, that is kind of mind-blowing

This sounds like the start of a Die Hard style terrorist movie plot!

Not counting what's still buried in the earth? Or does that include some estimate of all the gold that exists that is as of yet un- mined?

if the height isn't the same as the width/length it's not really a cube now is it?

"The amount of gold extracted from the Earth is a tiny fraction of its total mass. In 2016, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) estimated about 7.8 million troy ounces or 244,000 U.S. tons had been discovered since the dawn of civilization. Because gold is so dense (19.32 grams per cubic centimeter), it does not take up much space for its mass.3 In fact, if you melted all the gold mined to date, you'd wind up with a cube about 70 feet across!"

From: https://www.thoughtco.com/how-is-gold-formed-4683984

So 70 feet in each dimension or 343,000 cubic feet.

Baseball path at MLB if projected to a cube with 90 feet in each direction is 729,000 cubic feet which would be twice the volume and change.

Interestingly gold does not form from stellar nuclear fusion. And likely would dim the core and only is in the mantle likely due to seismic activity possibly initiated by asteroid strikes.

.35 was the mens ring, women's are quite a bit smaller from my recollection...?

Also I think the 50k number is pretty generous. Of the student a bunch don't have rings yet, many spouses, children and friends/family that may never have graduated. Also visiting or opposing crowd.

Still a crap load of gold.

You guys aren't nerdy enough…

108,000 in stadium…

57.5% Male = 62,100 males
42.5% Female = 45,900 females
(We'll pretend there aren't any non-binary /trannies -cause they're just "make believe" anyway)…

35% of males with ring (Excludes kids, not yet grads, visitors, Aholes supporting other team, etc…)
= 22,785 male rings @ 0.35 oz estimate
= 7975 ox

25% o females with rings (Excludes Kids, wives who went to other schools, visitors, not yet grads, Aholes supporting other team, etc…) = 10,725 female rings at .18 oz estimate = 1930 oz

9905 oz x $2762.70 = $27.365M per game

Welcome to the party pal, indeed !!!
