There has been some information littered about, so let's get it all on one thread for those who will be making the trip. I've prepopulated some items that I know the answers to. Help fill in the blanks

Date/Time:
  • 7:30p Eastern, November 2nd, 2024
Where:
Yell Practice:

Parking:
  • Map of Spots
  • Parking is available all along Bluff Rd coming toward the stadium from 77
Transit:

Aggie gameday events:
  • There will not be an Association of Former Students All-Aggie Tailgate
Gamecock gameday events:
  • 1:30p Gamecock Park & Woodstock Parking lots open
  • 2:30 LMC Fair Park (Fairgrounds) & Armory Parking Opens
  • 3:00p Gamecock Village opens (music, beer tent, inflatables, videoboards)
  • 5:30p Flyover
  • 5:30p Gamecock Walk-in @ Gamecock Park
  • 6:00p Pep Rally @ Gamecock Park Amphitheater
  • 6:00p All gates open
  • 7:10p Pregame Fanfare Begins
  • 7:30p BTHO begins
Restaurants:
  • Saluda or Motor Supply company for upscale white table cloth grub...or Halls Chophouse for steaks right across from the State Capital building.
  • Hampton Street Vineyard.
  • Lula Drake wine bar if you want to have nice wine with wife or Bourbons downtown if you want a good whisky selection.
  • For breakfast go to The Original Pancake House. It's a must southern experience.
Bars/Nightlife:
  • Seems like "Five Points" is their version of Northgate. Looks to be pretty far from the stadium.
Things to do (Fri/Sun):
  • If you're staying for several days, might check out Charleston or Hilton Head.
  • Drive an hour west of Columbia to Saluda, SC, birthplace of William Travis and James Bonham.
  • Check out a big Palmetto State Armory if you're into pew pews.
  • Go to The Pearl. Go see the largest fire hydrant in the world.
  • Driving an hour east to Camden, SC. They've got some really nice Revolutionary War sites. Rebuilt house where British General stayed, museum, battle sites around town, a few graves. Outside of town is site of First Battle of Camden. Not a lot to see, just the land where it happened. It was the battle depicted in the Mel Gibson movie "The Patriot", where the militia broke and ran.
Areas to avoid:
  • Columbia isn't a bad city but there are some bad areas - just pay attention to where you are driving.
  • Five Points area is where the college crowd will be (their version of Northgate). Not recommended after the game though. Go hang out around the State House / Gervais St instead.

Never having been before, it looks like the stadium is not really close to the main campus, correct? No wandering around campus like at A&M and other out-of-town locations I've been to?

The stadium is in an industrial part of town right next to their state fairgrounds. When we were there, we parked in a garage near campus and took the shuttle bus.

The game was great (we won) but the line for the shuttle bus afterward was ridiculous because there had been a major wreck near a railroad crossing that prohibited traffic from passing freely. We stood in line for almost three hours before finally boarding and getting back to the car. By the time we got back, we were starving and Chick Fil A was the only thing open (and they were getting ready to close and had mercy on us).

What One Louder said. When we went the shuttle bus dropped off and picked up on the other side of the fair grounds, quite a walk to the stadium. And traffic going to the game slowed the bus up enough that we passed on the Aggie tail gate, which was another walk from the stadium.

Parking: Bluff Rd towards I77 from the stadium is full of commercial pay to park places (cash). Starting around $20 and going up the closer to the stadium you get. This is usually where I park.

Looks like designated "visitor sections" for the lower level is sections 17-18. Are any fellow Ags planning to sit in section 19?

Bars/Nightlife: Seems like "Five Points" is their version of Northgate. Looks to be pretty far from the stadium. This weekend is my first trip to SC.

Anyone know if there are any Aggie events pre-game? FTAB march-in, players walk-in, etc?

Yell: For clarity, is the 10PM start Central, or Eastern time? Asking because there was some confusion during the last visit and folks were showing up at the end.

If memory serves me, I believe The Association has an Aggies only tailgate spot across from the stadium. I haven't seen any emails about it this year though.

USCe will have a player walk-in (I think it starts from across the street at what they call Game Cock Park). I don't recall ever seeing the Ags do anything other than get off the bus at the stadium.

The last game I went to, George Rogers (USCe Heisman winner) was riding around the stadium on a golf cart with his trophy from the 80's. He'll let you take pictures and even pick up the trophy (it is surprisingly heavy).

Other than that, there's really not much to do other than walk around and visit tailgate spots. Some Carolina fans are welcoming, some are... not so much.

Also, their campus is really scattered all over town. You'll see students walking everywhere. This map is a pretty good reference tool if you've never been to a game in Columbia.

This was 2018, wasn't it. I remember that taking forever after the game

That's when Tim Brewster was coming out of Williams Brice yelling, "The Station… is LIT!"

Will put in a plug for driving an hour east to Camden, SC.

It's a pine forest, not the open field shown in the movie, which is just one of many things Gibson got wrong

It's an easy drive down I-40, and has several hotels if you're still looking for a place to stay

In the heart of the Southeastern Conference, where legends are born and rivalries are forged in the fires of competition, one matchup stands tall: the University of South Carolina Gamecocks versus the Texas A&M Aggies. This is not merely a game; it's a battle for pride, tradition, and supremacy.

As the sun sets on a crisp autumn afternoon, the stage is set. The air crackles with anticipation, and the echoes of past glories fill the stadium. The Gamecocks, donning their garnet and black, have a rich history steeped in grit and determination. From the raucous crowds at Williams-Brice Stadium to the passionate fanbase that bleeds Carolina colors, this team embodies resilience. They've faced adversity head-on, turning setbacks into comebacks, and forging an identity that's hard to match.

Across the field, the Texas A&M Aggies arrive with their own storied legacy. Clad in maroon and white, they march onto the turf with the thunderous spirit of the 12th Man behind them. Known for their relentless defense and explosive offense, the Aggies bring a tenacity that makes every yard contested. The traditions of A&Myells, bonfire, and the camaraderie of their loyal fanscreate an atmosphere that's electric.

At the heart of this rivalry lies the Bonham Trophy, a symbol of excellence and fierce competition. Each year, this coveted prize is fought for with a passion that reflects the stakes involved. It represents not just victory, but a chance to etch one's name into the annals of college football history. The trophy embodies the fierce pride of both institutions, capturing the spirit of a rivalry that transcends mere wins and losses.

With every snap of the ball, this contest becomes a showcase of strategy, skill, and heart. The clash of helmets echoes like thunder, each tackle a declaration of war, each touchdown a testament to hard work and dedication. As the Gamecocks and Aggies battle for supremacy, they not only compete for the Bonham Trophy but also for the respect of their peers, the adoration of their fans, and a place in the storied tradition of college football.

As the final whistle blows, the scoreboard may tell a tale of victory or defeat, but what endures is the legacy of rivalry. South Carolina and Texas A&M, two proud programs, intertwined in a narrative of passion and pride that will resonate through the ages. This is more than a game; it's a testament to the spirit of college footballa saga of rivalry that continues to captivate the hearts of fans everywhere.

no idea if we still do this but when I went to a game we had midnight yell on the steps of the capital building on Friday. Stadium as stated is in a shiethole part of town, but stadium itself is pretty cool and the tailgating around the stadium is also pretty good. The restaraunts right along the street leading up to capital are pretty good, dont' remember the names of anywhere we went but it was good.
