You know how its undeniable that he's the greatest? Any time a current college QB makes a great play, its the only player they reference. "Is it the next coming of JFF?!"

Evan's was/is great but that was not Mike Evan's on that play. Ed Pope if I remember correctly bailed Johnny out on that play.

That is basically the definition of a hail Mary. The guy was good, and he got lucky when he needed it.

Still had a wicked Sherman O-Line that year that helped too, but JFF is JFF.

People can credit Evans and the OL all they want, but neither of those can really account for his running and scrambling ability. He could consistently turn a busted play into a big gain because he was so quick and slippery.

No QB ever had that kinda wow factor. He was incredibly fun to watch

I've always said Manziel was like turning a whitetail deer loose on the field and trying to catch it!

JFF was awesome.

He had Sherman's o-line. A thing of beauty.

He had Mike Evan's and Swope and a host of other targets.

He had a great OC - name eludes me. Tech

If we'd had Elko back then…. Wow!

I used to call him The Mongoose. He was always just out of reach.

If tag was an NCAA sport, JFF would own the recordbook.

You could put Manziel in a 10 ft circle and I still couldn't catch him!

my favorite part about him was that defenders were scared to miss him and every so often JFF would lower a shoulder into a defender on his heels and truck him.

pure greatness. good players make other good players great. credit due all around for those two years.

He threw a INT at La Tech that was across the field on the La Tech 20

JFF ran across the field and caught the guy at the Aggies 20 yd line saving a Pick 6

Helluva play. The man liked to compete.

They don't ever make the highlight reels, but he also could make all the throws from the pocket.
When he decided to run, he was one of those rare players that could just change directions without losing any speed.
We'll never know what he could have done in the NFL if he didn't have his own personal demons he was dealing with, but I still think he had the talent to dominate there.

That whole group of receivers was underrated and overshadowed by Johnny. The current group is no where close in my opinion.

Back in those days we did not worry about third downs. We knew they would be converted.

I always said, 3rd and 9 or longer, we have them where we wanted them. He was free to do whatever he wanted. It was Johnny drop back and scramble around until a receiver got open or the defense ran far enough downfield for him to run for the first down.

Also scoring a TD on the opening drive EVERY GAME.
Great stat that some folks seem to forget.

Yeah when he caught up to him he also pounded the ball loose. It's not for nothing that Mack Brown recruited him as a safety. He would have been HOF.

Hell, we didn't even have that many third downs. Sumlin remarked on it. It was 1st and ten, 1st and ten, 1st and ten…score.

Ok, that's absurd. Sanders' passing numbers were crap compared to JFF.

I don't know him personally, but he appears to be one of those athletes that truly loved the game & competition.

My recollection of that play was we ran a wildcat with Johnny wide left. Running back took the snap and ran to the right side of the line and fumbled. La Tech picked it up and began the return. Johnny from across the field tracked him down and stripped the ball only to be recovered by another tech guy. Johnny got up and tackled him. All for nothing because penalty brought it back.
