If wearing black to a game meant we won a national championship or even just a SEC championship game appearance, would you change your mind?

Obviously what we wear has no immediate impact on our team, but if it meant we get the stud recruits that think it's badass that we black out the stadium which leads to our overall program success, are you going to renounce your fandom and turn in your Aggie ring because "our colors are maroon and white dammit"?

Recruits choosing a school because of uniform color seems shallow.

I give them more credit than that

Like I've said before; some top players find alternate jerseys cool. Look at NCAA Football 2024 or whatever it is. The players like choosing alternate jerseys in the game. It's one of the best marketing tools to attract players (see Oregon Ducks). One of the weakest areas of TAMU is marketing (See the Bevel and comic Sans fonts). We're not Alabama, nor are we Oregon but any tool this Athletic department can use to gain NATIONAL RECOGNITION helps. I love Maroon, but we need to think outside the box sometimes.

I see it as not so much the need to look badass (though I think it will) and more about rallying behind our team. They asked for this one thing. Wear black, blackout Kyle with the team, and let them know they have the support of the fans.

I'd wear burnt orange if it would get us to the National Championship.

This has been happening longer than you think. Heard an interview on the radio with Eric Dickerson and part of his decision to take the Transam and run was he didn't care for the Maroon color and preferred the look of OU and SMU but his grandmom didn't trust Switzer so he ended up at the Ponies.

Corps of Cadets wears khaki and green which aren't school colors either . I don't see the issue with black.

What you need to understand is, there is an unfortunately large percentage of our fan base who are just looking for something to whine about.

Black uniforms this week. It will be something else next week.

Uniform designers need more practice... practice makes for better performance, therefore, we all get better uniforms

I was in the Corps and I have no issue with black uni's or black out. Uncover in the MSC is just a respect thing.

Maybe I'm an outlier, I dunno.

Ever wonder why Elko lets the players have a choice in uniforms? He gets it.

That's where I'm at too. They're not asking for much, and I'd hate for players (or recruits) to see a half-assed environment where there's a spattering of black shirts over there but for the most part nobody cared to participate. They aren't asking to change all our traditions or charge the field or donate all our money.

All I really need to do is grab this shirt instead of that shirt when I get dressed on Saturday. Easy!

i am surprised this topic has the legs that it does.

personally i like our traditional home uniforms but for a game i can accept an alternative uniform if it matters to the players that much. if for a special occasion they want to black out the stadium and when they run out he tunnel it fires them up to win the game the once again i can accept that.

just because there is a one time change to our typical uniform selections doesn't mean we re losing our traditions. and as long as the helmet says aTm on them i can find a way to be supportive.

Black is also a pretty neutral color. It's not like we're coming out where yellow and blue

At the end of the day if people don't feel the need to wear black independent of the team's ask, fine, wear what you want. What I don't get is to go to great lengths on here to martyr against it thinking being defiant puts you above everyone else. It's hilarious that people are willing to die on that hill. Classic.

Have you ever thought that we've already gone overboard toward becoming like every other University (e.g., DJs, no Band March-In, etc.), and now let's just make it a complete "join the sheep" effort by giving up our Aggie Colors (Maroon & White, for those who don't know)....... and so, we become like every other football program and stadium experience...... sorry, NOT FOR ME !!!

This issue has NOTHING to do with support of the team ! It has to do with are we unique (in a positive way) as Aggies, or do we just want to fit in and be like everyone else ?

The ONLY valid ANNUAL goal for ALL Aggie Sports is a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!

Ding ding ding

Players want this, fans are there to support the team, so throw aside your stubborn adherence to tradition and support the damn team by wearing black

Supporting the team is the tradition that trumps all others

I read your post and thought to myself "this dude is old and stuck in the past". Then I saw your signature and said "yep". Sometimes change is ok, and if you think we're "unique", go visit some other schools. They all have proud traditions and they want to win at least as much as we do.

Not to bring up Oregon again, but A&M actually has a better advantage here. I live in Eugene, go to a few Ducks games every year and they broadcast which color to wear for a given game but in October the fans are going to wear whichever color jackets they have available. The students tend to wear the weekly jersey color but the remainder of Autzen is a mix of whatever North Face or REI jacket colors most fans have available.

I don't know what the weather is going to be like this Saturday in College Station, but I bet at least the students and a bunch of the former students could easily wear something black. Even pockets of maroon here and there would help with the effect for a night game.

I believe that fan shirt color does not make the team play better. Therefore, I choose to further advertise A&M's brand (maroon & white). I wouldn't wear a Tech shirt to an A&M game, yet everyone seems to think wearing their colors to represent our school is noble. I don't get it. But I also don't understand horns-down when we aren't playing t.u., so I guess I'm the weirdo.

If you're too cheap to go buy a black shirt just slip on a black hefty trash bag and tell everyone that the forecast called rain.

We should be so lucky as a program, leading the SEC, in late October, in control of our own destiny, with a massive home game looming to be able to argue about this luxury belief/problem.
