What the hell?

We finally have an offense and NOW you want to take away celebrations?

I've waited too damn long to see us score points. I want some key and peele style celebrations.

I see your point.

Celebrations bother you? Why? What's wrong with you?

i'll take this one...

First of all, "celebrations" don't bother us. Go celebrate with your team.

What bothers us is excessive celebration of the individual, or some synchronized bull **** celebration that exceeds the bounds of good sportsmanship.

You're probably asking "what's THAT?" and "WHO decides?" which exposes the fact that you're probably beyond understanding the issue.

Football is a team sport, and because it IS a sport, "sportsmanship" should be part of the game. It's one of thise things where you DO know it when you see it.

For a hundred years it was fairly easy to tell the difference between good sportsmanship and poor.

Now people want to dumb it down to its lowest common denominator, and that DETRACTS from the beautiful game of football.

And THATS what bothers us.

I don't mind celebrations within the bounds of good taste. The Ole Miss jackass a few years back that crawled on his hands and knees like a dog and then lifted his leg to simulate taking a pisss against MSU a few years ago was beyond trashy. I believe the penalty also allowed State to come back and win.

Lately, I've seen a defender make a tackle and then stand over the offensive player while making a shooting a machine gun or shotgun gesture. That **** needs to stop now too. Absolutely no place in the game for that.

do you like when the players from a team get together and act like they are taking a piss in the end zone?
This is a direct result of the way the stupid celebration rule was being excessively enforced.

Player ran it in and pointed to the stands or pumped his fist? Celebration penalty. BUT...celebrating with teammates was not ruled "excessive." So coaches taught the other players to run over and make it a group celebration to avoid the BS penalties.

Refs now are mainly looking for "taunting," and I haven't noticed much of what you describe in your OP in the games I've watched this year.

Showing emotion or pride in a physical game never should have been a penalty. All those rules came about because small school presidents didn't like the Miami celebrations in the 90s.

I do agree w/ the guy that there should be a penalty for defenders celebrating a minimum effort stop.

I was a little surprised there was no flag when the Arkansas RB scored their 2nd to last TD on Saturday night and did this gun celebration:

1) Pull ski-mask down [motion]
2) Kick door in
3) shoot machine gun

Lsu was flagged in their 1st game for pretending to shoot a gun after scoring. It seems even worse to motion that you're pulling a mask over your face, kicking a door down, and then shooting someone with an automatic. Lol

This is one of the causes for the posting…..just don't get why this acceptable unless the herd mentality is now nfl jr so anything goes regardless of how classless - but where is the line?

I doubt the NFL allows that celebration. Haha

So games were altered, people living through nightmares where 15 yard penalties were assessed on the kickoff, or TDs were prevented, etc.......

Yet here we are with mini-NFL celebrations and dances and football flips near spikes with NO PENALTIES and no announcers even saying "wow, they really danced and twerked well in the end zone after that score!"

When did the NCAA decide to screw all of the targeting people but let "excessive celebration" penalties be just another part of pay for play?

in before - "olds just don't like progress".........no, olds just don't like ruining games and then pooping on the games that were ruined by ignoring existing RULES or overturning them. What gives?

"When you score, act like you been there before"
-Barry Sanders

"When you get into the end zone, act like you have been there before." Darrell Royal

Players have a right to choose whether to be a class act or not. It should not be a penalty to not show class. Let 'em draw attention to their selfish selves.

It's pretty damn funny watching the defense run around lifting their shirts up.

Back in my day, dudes wanted hot coeds to lift their shifts and not other dudes. Times have changed.

Kids, this is the real takeaway from OP: add 13 years to your class year . That's when your aging process starts taking its toll on your overall disposition. Enjoy your good years. I've no reason to doubt that OP has.

I wouldn't have even caught the ski-mask part if you didn't explain it.

Yeah, agree with yall I'm surprised the gun gestures haven't been addressed more strongly.

Fine with any celebration that doesn't involve BS like the Arkansas guy above. The "pat down"on Brandon Miller after that woman was killed last year made me want to f'ing puke. That was way beyond trashy

Where I draw the line (and I don't think college is bad yet, this is pretty much an NFL thing) is the pre choreographed crap that holds the game up for two minutes while the whole team has to run down to the end zone, get all lined up and perform their routine that they've been working on all week instead of their playbook. As long as it doesn't take more than a few seconds, go for it. But start calling some unsportsmanlike and delay of game where it's warranted and these guys might start getting some pushback from their coaches

Celebrations should have their limitations, as some of those are just begging for a boxing match on field.

I hate it when people split hairs on this topic also. Everyone knows where the line is between celebrating, and disrespect; and trying to blur that line just leads to flat out unsportsmanlike behavior.

When a TD is scored, that's cause for celebration, so celebrate, wow the crowd, do something funny, but don't cross the line into disrespect for your opponent.
