Week 6's Overnight Sensation: Terry Bussey, Wide Receiver

Each Monday during the 2024 Texas A&M football season, we’ll identify a first or second-year Aggie player who delivered an exceptional performance over the weekend and earned the distinction of being the week’s “Overnight Sensation.”

Everything to love about a small-town kid wearing #2.

In Texas A&M's 41-10 beatdown of Missouri on Saturday, true freshman Terry Bussey shined, leading the passing attack with 76 yards on Saturday.

Sidelined for three weeks, quarterback Conner Weigman returned to action, completing 82 percent of his passes on a successful offensive day. Although Bussey only had three receptions of Weigman's 18 completions, he made the most of them.

Despite winning games, a lack of explosive plays has been a concern for A&M’s offense throughout the month of September. The freshman proved he can be a threat.

In the third quarter, Weigman found the Timpson native downfield for a gain of 32, leading to a field goal by Randy Bond later in the drive.

Shortly after, in the fourth, another chunk of yardage came from Bussey as he rolled out of the backfield and scampered for a gain of 33. Two plays later, Le'Veon Moss found the end zone to put the Aggies up 41-7.

Weigman’s only incompletion on a pass intended for Bussey came in the second quarter when #15 fired into double coverage. However, the freshman’s instincts as a defensive back kicked in as Bussey prevented an interception.

A heads-up play by the 18-year-old.

A highly-touted prospect out of high school, Bussey served a massive recruiting win for Mike Elko & Co. in February. On National Signing Day, questions circled if he would stick with his Texas A&M commitment, or would he opt for another SEC program?

Aggieland is where he wanted to be.

Bussey is reaping the benefits of his decision as Collin Klein's offense utilizes him in many ways, also seen in the backfield on Saturday with just one rush of six yards. The versatile Bussey is also A&M's primary kickoff and punt returner.

Yet, his versatility doesn't stop there. This is the same young star who committed to A&M as a defensive back.

With the ability to make an impact in all three phases of the game, have the Aggies found their new Swiss Army Knife?

An exceptional kid who has dealt with and overcome so many hardships in his life. He could have succumbed to circumstances but he always rose above. Great personal character… proud to have him representing my school both academically and athletically.

Go look at his blocking on one of the swing pass plays. He & Walker did great jobs of staying w/their guy allowing the RB to get upfield.

Great effort by Bussey & Walker, need more of that for those plays to work.

Not bad for a guy that seemed to not be focusing solely on offensive until the fall until Owens went down. Incredible athlete

His best play Saturday was the pass break up preventing the interception.
