Honest question - what is the penalty there? Is it because it was so far away from the play? It wasn't a hard shot and was in the chest with his hands? Just excessive?

That penalty was a joke. At that point, it's a good block because the QB is now on defense and chasing the ball.

There is a world where LSU regrets that not going the distance, but it requires USC to chew clock and end up with a TD anyhow.

LSU looks like they're coached so well
The replay of that hit is BS. The QB starts running towards the ball carrier, he's eligible to be blocked. Unless they called that a blindside block, that's just the refs trying to save LSU.
Some really questionable calls by the refs late here.

That false start penalty was ridiculous. The LB simulated the snap count. You clearly see him scream for the DL to shift.
