I posted here more than once when we were looking for a coach that we should hire Lane Kiffin. Most people dismissed the idea because he talked crap about Jimbo and supposedly said something to one of our players during a game.

We should have gotten over whatever petty, personal dislike we had for Kiffin and hired him. Jimbo deserved it, by the way.

He would have immediately made the offense very productive. When has he not had a very high scoring offense?
You immediately fix half the team.
He would have jumped at the opportunity with all of our resources.
We would have won.

I'm not giving up on Elko, but last week was not good.

Ask yourself this... do you think we would have put up more than 13 points with Kiffin in charge?

I believe that Kiffin is now the third-longest tenured coach in the SEC.

The fact that you even suggest "giving up" on Elko is enough to make the rest of your post null and void. A coach should get 3-4 years unless results are a total disaster. We've had waaaaaaay worse performances in the first few weeks of a new coach.

Ole Miss gave him a raise and we would have needed to pay him 11M for him to consider.

After the Jimbo contract, we all know that wasn't gonna happen.

Yeah OP, you sure told us.

By making this post, you have publicly stated that you gave Elko only 1 game - 1 GAME! - to possibly prove himself, since you were all-in on Joey Freshwater and you're pissed that we didn't spend $$$$$$$$ for him. The fact that he is an assclown doesn't bother me so much as the guy makes me think Sumlin 2.0 - all offense, no defense. Nope, don't want.

And no, Joey Freshwater isn't likely to do any better against Notre Dame with the way that CW played.

Yeah, lost to Florida, Arkie, Bama, and Auburn, covid year. Didn't play us but very next year Ole Miss beat us.

He coaches us in the ND game, we'd won by 14

Texas fan here. Here is what I posted on rivalries board last year:

Here is what I envision….

The State of Texas becomes the State of Florida from the 1990's.

The Aggies fire Jimbo and bring in a young offensive mastermind as coach. Both schools continue to recruit lights out - as they should with their built in advantages. The Longhorns continue to improve. The Aggies, with the talent already on campus, become great overnight. The Longhorns and Aggies win like the Gators and Seminoles did back then. Everyone from every other state hates and resents the State of Texas for their dominance in college football. A minimum 4 national championships are won between the 2 schools in a ten year span.

Texas and A&M still hate each other, but develop a mutual respect for each other. Every loss is not blamed on the refs, and everyone accepts that cheating is not the reason for these two schools' dominance. The State of Texas- one of the freest states in the country- is the common trait that binds the two schools and propels them to greatness.

I can't believe how many posters on this board have apparently never experienced an ounce of adversity. It was one loss. ONE. To a top 10 team. Maybe we should let the season play out before banging the pots.

I hope elko proves me wrong but damn that was a winnable game that would have been huge.
13 points is pathetic.

Whoever said Florida will hire kiffin makes a lot of sense.
Florida would immediately be relevant again just like we could have been with a high scoring offense, our defensive talent, and a good defensive coordinator.
