The sad thing is Klein may have had better skill position talent at K St last year than he has here.
In the span of a few weeks last December, we were decimated at receiver. Last year's leading receiver, Ainias Smith, opted to forgo his final season of eligibility for the NFL. Evan Stewart (5-star recruit?), our second-most productive receiver when available, transferred to Oregon. Our two prized verbal commits in the 2024 class, five-star Cam Coleman and four-star Drelon Miller, flipped to Auburn and Colorado, respectively. Stewart, Coleman and Miller all started in their team's season openers last weekend.
Had we kept one or more of those receivers, this unit could have been a lot better this season. Instead, we now have the sixth-worst receiving grade (51.6) from Pro Football Focus and lack much proven production. Even when including first-year receiver transfers Jabre Barber and Cyrus Allen, no A&M player has reached at least 700 receiving yards in a season for a Power Four program.
Not to mention losing our projected starting RB, Ruben Owens before the season started.
