I concur.

I know it's only one game in and it was a loss at home but we should consider doubling the salary and doubling the guaranteed length of time on our HC's contract.

The only positive is that at least we didn't start chanting Mike, Mike or Elko, Elko like we did for Jimbo after a close loss to Clemson at home his first year. That was pathetic.

and was sitting at 5-2 after 7 games following a road win in Gainesville

I am 100% glass half full and never take for granted our great run in 1939!

I get the sarcasm, but Petrino's offense and Arkie's defense is based on ONE game against the weakest team that any Power 5 team faced in week one. You can't take anything from that.

The offensive line was miles better for starters. Play calling and design was overall much better. Weigman didn't play well and press man with pressure is nearly impossible to beat consistently when done well. Notre Dame does it extremely well.

We passed for 100 yards and rushed for 146. Im just spitballing here but it's possible your expectations have fallen so low that you view this as progress. And no, I don't buy that ND is a top 5 team the playoffs will show that.

It might be a 12 team playoff, but it's still going to be the same top 4 team completing for the championship. Being 12 thru 30 still doesn't mean anything.

So how did TCU make the Championship game in a 4 team playoff then?

Not that they really "competed" for the championship but they were on the field.

It was game 1 of a new system, they haven't had a chance to recruit to the system other than portal entries, and ND does have a quality defense . That doesn't excuse Weigman's very poor showing but if he makes a few plays more and doesn't turn the ball over that game was hardly out of reach .

I dunno what's going to happen with this coaching staff but you have to give them a fair chance. One game against what is at the very least a good team is hardly a fair chance .

Jackie Sherrill was 16-16-1 before the program turned the corner. Game 1 at A & M, 38-16 blowout loss to Boston College at Kyle. Bear Bryant was 1-9 in season 1 here.
