That is a fantastic read! IT also shows the romanticism of the sport, specifically college ball. The NFL doesn't really have crazy stories or traditions like that, which is why I love college football
I found a copy of the print "Led By The Spirit" by Rick Rush on eBay a few years ago and bought it, its a really neat piece if you like sports art. I did not realize that Barhorst's name was misspelled in the original print, I believe it is misspelled on mine too. That was a cool article and good read.
This was the game where I decided to go to Texas A&M to try out for the 12th man kickoff team (went to HS in Los Angeles). Unfortunately RC got here when I did and killed it… or took it from 11 guys to 1. I never made it either way.
Here's the video of the towel incident. It's embedded in that article but this is a better version of that video. I remember when this happened and how fired up it turned that defense!

Chet Brooks came up to me on the sideline before the kick & told me, and the rest of us, to get his towel.
I was a ball guy. My job was wedge buster, make the returner slow to change directions. That's me #9 on the ground behind the play. I did my job, and took a swipe to try & grab it to no avail.
That's me as the 3rd man in, pulling Brown off of Warren & turning him back towards his sideline. As you can see the calvary was coming, I snuck back to the sidelines, unsure of Coach Sherrill was going to be pissed at us or ND. Luckily, it was ND & Brown, who dejectedly walked to the locker room shortly thereafter.

Lot of fun!!
Thanks to you and that particular 12th crew for the lifelong memories!
I was at this game as a kid. Didn't know until well after the game what prompted Tim browns outburst and ensuing melee. Great ending to a legendary game
