Heard from a friend who is an associate trainer that collectively the team has put on a total of 7000 lbs of muscle/weight since last season. They are really bought into Moffit's entire philosophy

well, if you counted walkons etc.... 100 people? 70lbs each? I'm not sure the math works.

Our 300lb linemen are now 370, and our 180lb corners are now 250. This will be interesting!

Dude, if they jog out of the tunnel with 40 inch circumference ankles, I'm going to lose it.

Actually it works out because all of our players were just super fat. So that 260 lb DE? 40% body fat. Cut that down to 15 which is a 65 lb lose, then bulked up to 265. That's 70lbs of muscle! Moffitt affect!

Even 10 lbs of muscle per player would be very good.

7000 divided by how many? Does that include all the walk-ons too? Maybe 120 total?

avg of 58 lbs per player? Doesn't seem likely.

7000 divided by the 105 man roster equals 66.7 pounds per player. That is not physically possible, your friend is stupid for believing it, and whoever told him is stupid for saying it.

I have nothing to say to anyone clueless enough to believe that a football team gained 7000 pounds of muscle in an offseason.

Now if they were noting max bench press of every member of the team at the start of the off season period , then established max bench press of every member at the end of the off season… the increase in the amount of weight being lifted could potentially be 7000 pounds.

7000 lbs more than last year's team is a lot, but on average the players we brought in are bigger and leaner than the ones that left plus we now have more tight ends than last years team as well.

So if every guy is just physically larger on average and then you reduce the body fat percentage and convert that to muscle weight plus add additional muscle, I can see how the muscle mass has increased. And if you take last year's guys whom presumably had higher BMIs and take their true muscle weight, then the differential could be close to the that 68 lb per man average.

Also the walk-ons could be larger and leaner on average than last year's guys as well.

There are metrics in place to calculate all this, but either way a larger, more muscled up team means we should be more explosive and physical, we should run the ball better and stop the run better. We should also be stronger in the 4th quarter. Hopefully we are also faster and less injury prone. If all this works out and the schemes are sound and we execute, then we should have a great year
