Just rewatched the Tommy Moffitt interview with TBob Hebert. Tommy Moffitt saying "we're bringing hell with us" amps me up every time.

I think that "we're coming and we're bringing hell with us" attitude has been missing for a while. I'm ready to run through a wall. I cant imagine what the players are feeling.

Btho everybody!
Give me the guy who shoots for excellence and fails over the guy who shoots for mediocrity and succeeds.

Every new coaching staff we've had has made the same type of remarks, yet here we are.

It's easy to talk.

You are right it's easy to talk, but with Tommy Moffitt his teams do their talking on the field.

He hasn't had a team here yet. At least wait until you have a season of results to base your opinions on. Chavis came here from LSU and sucked absolute dong. Jimbo came here from Florida State and sucked absolute dong.

Fran came here from Alabama and sucked absolute dong

Mike Sherman came here after winning a Super Bowl with Green Bay and sucked absolute dong

This place is a coaching graveyard, I'll hold my enthusiasm this time until we actually do something

McCarthy was Head Coach when Green Bay won the Super Bowl, Sherman never won a divisional playoff game or a bowl game as a head coach

We had a Vietnamese-born Naval Academy Grad in our squadron who we gave the call sign "Donger", every time I hear that movie reference it makes me laugh. Dude was hilarious.

Some of you truly don't allow for anyone to be even slightly optimistic without chiming in. I'm all for a wait and see approach if that's what you want to do, but do you have to s*** all over anyone who points out something that could be seen as slightly optimistic? I have no idea what Elko will do, but if he fails, it won't be because we are a coaching graveyard, which implies something inherently wrong with Texas A&M football. Elko will have all the resources needed here to win big. Like Sumlin and Jimbo, he will have to own all his failures. There's nothing else to blame them on.

Now, 20 years ago, you could argue we did not have the program set up that way. The Slocum/Fran/Sherman years you could make the argument we were a coaching graveyard since we had fallen behind on resources and put them at a disadvantage. But our current program is far different than when Sherman was here. Not even close. The only two hires that were made when our program compares to where it is now are Jimbo and Sumlin.

Jimbo looked exactly like he did his last three years at FSU when he went 25-12 in a much lesser conference where he had a massive talent advantage in 11 of 12 losses. He showed us EXACTLY what we were getting without a transcendent QB from 2015-2017, with the lone difference being 10-3 translating to 9-4 or 8-5 in a harder conference compared to having the most talent in his conference and still only being able to go 10-3. We just hoped his 2012-2014 stretch was what we were getting and all of us, including myself who overrated him without a doubt.

Sumlin was always considered a mediocre hire. When he had Keenum / Manziel, he looked elite. Without the transcendent QB in Keenum, he went 5-7 at Houston. A place far easier to win at than Duke in a harder conference. Elko may or may not succeed, but there's plenty of reason to believe he could be different than Jimbo and Sumlin based on his resume. But a wait and see approach is more than reasonable.

Well, one with real skins on the wall did lead to 9-1 and a top 4 finish before leaving and we saw what happened after. Along with Elko and Schmidt leading the way, we always played at least good/great defense that was very tough and physical. I equate Moffit's resume much closer to Schmidt than any other S&C coach we have had and with Elko leading the charge, would expect something more similar to what we saw from 2018-2021 than 2022/2023 from a toughness/injury standpoint.

Also, just as a side note regarding the Chavis comments, defensive efficiency under Sumlin according to BCFtoys https://www.bcftoys.com/2017-fei:

Snyder
23
79
86
Chavis
11
43
42

These aren't great numbers, but it's pretty clear this was more of a head coaching issue and that Chavis greatly improved us from where we were trending with Snyder. Like Lincoln Riley, he would just never produce good defensive teams. I always thought the Chavis hate was a little off base and just missed the real issue that was clear. Sumlin's style.

I agree with beerad relative to Schmidt. When Jimbo got here, we did see massive improvements in S&C vs the later Sumlin years. We did not see a team that faded in the 4th quarter or in November. The biggest problem record-wise in Jimbo's early years were lesser talent and brutal schedules. Was it 2019 where we played three #1 teams?

After Schmidt left though, things definitely went down hill as, by that time, Jimbo seemed to mail it in with regard to staffing hires.

As Jimbo upgraded the talent level, S&C, discipline, and coaching all went in the crapper.

Until the culture changes it will remain just that. It starts with coaching but admin, and the fansbase are not excluded.

We should be demanding perfection like all the other programs, and franchises that have success do.

Say what you will, NY Yankee fans demand nothing less than a world title every year and call for heads to roll when they don't. Same goes for Bama, Boston Red Sox, Celtics.. there are many out there

We have too many excuses year in and year out. God forbid we beat UTrans, we're now good, regardless of the season record and lack of hardware.

Big difference between all the dong sucker coaches and Elko.

Elko is a football coach and not a public speaker ….."just execute"

Our Aggies are going to surprise a lot of people and opposing teams!!!

Before we hired Schmidt you could look at the players physically and see the overall difference between our players and other squads. Couldn't play in the 4th qtr.

Schmidt made a HUGE difference and closed that gap. Losing Schmidt was a big loss and our players regressed. Injuries mounted after he left.

I feel like Elko knows this and hopefully has rectified this with the hire of Tommy M.

Only time will tell.

The other thing about Schmidt was his sideline behavior. He could fire the team up!

Easy to see Moffit was a great hire no matter how bad your BAS is at this time.

This. Too much of the "just beat tu" attitude. Add that to the repetitive cycle of letting top Offensive Tackles in the country who happen to be in-state go elsewhere.
