And the NCAA makes a settlement and allows schools to pay directly. This is officially the minor leagues. There is a $20 mil cap though, so who's going to be shoring up the money year in year out. This might only bring back the bagmen once the cap space hits too soon. It's almost just like it used to be…

$20mil seems like a good enough number for now and will level the playing field to a degree.

It should make these NIL numbers more reasonable too. Wonder if sip can still pay Ewers and them eleventy billion or whatever they claimed.

ima get **** for this lol but why does every single post that's made on here within the first 4 comments/responses it has a comment towards Texas? Yes...hate me ..im a "SIP" family went to ATM. Brother and Mom to ATM and sister and dad to Texas. Im at Texas currently. SO excited to play you guys again. One of my all time fav rivalries growing up and i was sad to see the powers above fcked it for all of us. But i just had to ask..why is within 4 comments of a threat "SIPS" come up lol just seems...idk odd..rent free kinda thing.

anyways im sure im going to get shyt on after this..but best of luck to yall next season..how cool would it be to have a undefeated ATM and undefeated Texas on the last game of the year? I know Kyle field will be rocking and i will be there in my Orange.

anyways, from a friendly "SIP" cant wait to play you guys again.

Why do all sips tell themselves that everyone is talking about them always. Get over yourselves, you're not that special.

I'll have you know I've never even once visited y'all's orangedildos site. And here you are, a sip with a Texags account. We're used to it here though so don't feel special all over again.

Even through your misspellings and poor grammar I got exactly what you were trying to say hence my insight into the reality of things. And it won't matter how many whiskeys or breaths you take it won't help you remember the great rivalry it once was if you're barely going to tu just now.

as we've discussed before...

schools will have to choose which sports they want to be great in

$20 MM does not go very far if a school wants to be great in more than 3 or 4 sports
W

and of course...

does Title IX apply to this $20 MM ?

I the ncaa's gravy train is over. What purpose do they serve now? Except for the title games they do very little.

So $20 million out of almost $200 in good years before the cfp kicks in will destroy the ncaa? Me thinks that's ludicrous…

Haven't we been saying for a while that the NCAA needs a restart from the ground up? Won't this help accomplish that?

So the new way to cheat is to just secretly spend more than the $20 million cap?

They've solved nothing

Yeah, seems like it just brings back the old problem. Only really makes sense if that is the school's portion but NIL still exists outside that. Not sure how you could prevent guys from making money from being in commercials or signing autographs.

you can't, and this settlement allows for it.

highlights from Ross Dellinger twitter:

Revenue Share
- How much: ~$20-22M annually (fluid; will escalate based on school rev figures)
- From: Schools
- To: Athletes
- Distribution: School discretion (Title IX applies)
- Implementation: Summer/Fall 2025
- Exceptions: $5M of Alston/new scholarships can count toward cap

Cap Enforcement
- Court oversight/audits
- Athlete reporting mechanism of 3rd party NIL
- Must be "true NIL" based on developed "fair market value" data
- Enforced thru NCAA/outside entity w/Court backing
- Burden on school/athlete to prove "true NIL"
- No pay-4-play/booster pay

Roster Change
- Eliminates scholarship caps
- Implements new roster limits (not finalized)
- Ability to provide scholarships to entire roster
- Potential football roster reduction to as few as 85 roster spots (on-going discussions)
- Title IX applies

Governance/other
- Potential new DI subdivision for increased power conference rule-making
- Flexibility for leagues to set some own rules
- Rev-share model could be extended beyond 10 yrs
- Plaintiffs agreed to lobby on behalf of NCAA's effort seeking Congressional protections

I dont like that there's a cap limit.

Money is one advantage A&M has always and will always have on most schools and now that's capped…

Unfortunately, I don't think this will fix cheating. Once certain schools reach their cap they will reach out to their bag men just like they used to to fill the gaps.

you are going to see a lot more "real" NIL with commercials, billboards, social media posts, etc. from athletes.

Maybe, maybe not. Doesn't seemed to have helped over the last few years anyways

The settlement is dumb. All the big schools will cheat on it. How can one decide if nil money is real or not, when they attach token promotional crap to the player?

Nothing has changed.

Allow me to translate for the NCAA:

"We're gonna super-seriously get NIL to work exactly how we wish it would work this time. Yes, we know that there are not really any structural reasons that it won't devolve exactly the same way as before, but you can totally trust that we will stop it this time."

true about the NCAA, but their days are numbered

there will be a new congressionally-backed group heading this up. will they be as feckless as NCAA? my guess is for the P2, probably so.

but i think you see more enforcement on everyone else.

I'm interested in the NFL side of this. Probably going to see a lot more elite players stick past their junior year. And why shouldn't they if they are getting paid big contract $$$, as a pro would, but also get to play against weaker competition?

NFL owners will throw their weight around this at some point, I'm sure. They'll have to give more concessions on rookie deals to pull prospects out of college.

how much money do you think the football players on going to be getting from the school?

for the elite players, its still less than they will get in NFL and every year they wait to go pro is one year more they have to wait for the big second contract.

I think what this does it allow for mid-range players to stay in college longer.

I could see the owners wanting that, but good luck getting the players union to agree.

Contract + NIL versus 5 year rookie deal?

Who knows man.

But it has. It's helped get top players. Which you need to win titles. We didn't have coaching or management.

Why even offer scholarships anymore with players being paid directly from schools + NIL? College athletics are dead.

I hear what you are saying but there will be work arounds and other "solutions." Programs such as ours, and tu and Ohio State to name a few aren't going to let the rules hamper their decades long advantages.

There are salary caps in all the major sports leagues, save for the MLB. Makes sense there is a cap. And its not like all of A&M's spending has won us anything in the revenue generating sports....
