once integration and scholarship limitations kicked in...in the early-to-mid-70's...

t.u. and Arkansas -- while still having good teams -- started losing more games to teams they used to dominate (A&M, Baylor, and eventually UH)
The Southwest Conference had scholarship limits starting in 1964.
