Better question. Why play it that day??

Things are a lot different than 30-40 years ago when it made sense.

I won't speak for we, but for me.

- NFL. This is not 1993 when Detroit played at 11, Dallas at 3, and then the Ags-sips at 6:30. There is now a third NFL game, and to contrast with the Egg Bowl, we are a State with two professional franchises that will take eyes away from us.

- Logistics. We are no longer accustomed to this. Sure, we could get back to that normal. But too many won't. Kids will go home for the holiday.

- sips are clamoring for it so f them. In fact, I am against even plying on Thanksgiving weekend because it feels too much like "getting the band back together". Since they are here now, we will play. But don't elevate that game's importance over others. Play them at random times, maybe after OU, before OU, season opening. Or even to end the season on occasion.

I kind of like the tradition of playing on thanksgiving. Not arguing but what has changed in last 30 years? I still hate those mfers.

As already pointed out.

We were the only game on 30 years ago. The NFL plays a very big match up now. That's a gigantic difference. Thursday night used to be focused on a great college game. NFL has taken over Thursday night now.

Two, bonfire not being on campus.

Enjoy the holiday with your family. Let the players enjoy it as well.

These are all very obvious reasons that everyone should easily understand and don't really need to be pointed out.

So all you said was tradition. Any real reasons other than that one that make sense to play the game on Thursday night?

There's already enough going on Thursday and I don't care to listen to all the t shirt sip talk from the non-college grads that seems to weasel their way behind a dinner plate. Put it on Friday or Saturday when I actually have a chance to catch every play.

I don't have another reason. Not saying your opinion is wrong. Just said I like it on Thanksgiving. Although I don't really watch the NFL, I understand the $ angle of not competing with the NFL If that in some way affects our cut of the pie.

My gut is that most people in this board never attended a Thanksgiving Day game and don't realize how fun those games were. Especially the 1975 game. Lol

There are valid reasons to like it or dislike it on Thursday
If you are season ticket holder and how close you live to CS mattered

Why I personally like it
I am a lifetime Season Ticket holder who always lived close to CS so we never had to get a hotel for the game

We really liked Thursday
It was a night game and the kick was set before the season started and plans could be made because the game was SCHEDULED

Not being certain when the kickoff will be is not great of course nothing is as bad as
Playing TCU at home in '84 the Saturday after thanksgiving was terrible and the Friday 11 am kick also was also terrible

Its time for the family to be back together. I look forward to watching A&M compete with UT on Thanksgiving night once again.

Does anyone remember the Leeland McCelroy game of Thanksgiving 1993?????
There was nothing like beating the Sips on Thanksgiving night.
The next day the local Wallmart would be sold out of all its A&M gear. This was back when A&M reigned supreme in the state of Texas, and the Southwest Conference.

Its time to bring that electricity back to this rivalry game. A&M-UT needs to rotate between the campuses and be played at 8PM on Thanksgiving Night in front of a National Television audience.

The late start can ensure that the fans that can attend are nice and liquored up........... which can only make the atmosphere as SEC as possible. The 8pm starts also lets folks from Dallas get home after the Cowboy game in time to catch the 1st quarter.

I'm looking forward to that first A&M vs UT game. Don't think folks in BCS haven't forgotten about the gaudy, over the top celebrations that occurred after that lucky kick in 2011.
Folks have a long memory in these neck of the woods, and you might be surprised at the amount of folks itching for some revenge and vengeance against the Horns.

One of these days the Texas Longhorns are going to have to come back to College Station, and we will see how tough they are.

Because I like LSU on Thanksgiving weekend. A&M left for the SEC to get away from the same old same old.

I'd prefer we play LSU that weekend and play tu in September.

It ain't the rivalry it used to be and it's just another football game now. LSU is easy to hate. tu is just another football game.

Whether it be LSU or tu, I'll be watching. We can play em on thanksgiving or April's Fools Day. Whether it is 9 AM, Noon, 2;30 in the afternoon, or 1 AM (wasn't that 7 OT game wonderful), I hate em both and will root my Ags onward to victory or even when they get outscored. Of course I'm just an old Ag who will yell at the clouds, the tv, or any kids our dogs within the vicinity. I watch it for the love of the game and read the threads for the comedy of the rest of you. If gives me joy as I never get too serious (after I calm down of course). i'm drinkin the maroon juice and adding alcohol. Welcome Mike Elko - may you do what the coaches before you tried to do and failed. Gig 'em.

That was the first game I ever attended. I still remember how hot it was. I think it was close to 90 degrees in late November. Bubba Bean is STILL one of my all-time favorite players and I still have the SI that came out with Bubba on the cover. Simonini and Co shut Earl Campell DOWN. That season is also the reason I still, to this day, have a searing hatred of Arkansas. We were as close to a national championship that year as anytime since 1939.

This.

The tu A&M game was a national tradition. It is ok for that the happen again. Let's get over the butthurt created by Deloss Dodds and company and move on. Bowtie put is in a good position. Let's enjoy it.

a couple of notes...

- A&M and t.u. have played over 50 times on a day other than Thanksgiving

some of A&M's biggest wins in the series have come on non-turkey day games

- the aforementioned 1975 game was played on the Friday after Thanksgiving -- not on T-Day

Not a fan of playing on Thanksgiving as that has been a huge day for family get togethers and my wife's favorite holiday (she is an Ag too) and for much of my life we were at a deer lease over the Thanksgiving holiday and never have had a tv at any lease. Always makes me cringe a little to see games on holidays. Doesn't the NBA or some league have games on Christmas Day?

sips get Kentucky at home the week before. We have to go to Auburn. So they get a much easier travel schedule and game before having to play on short rest than we do. Also, there will be fewer students if it's on Thanksgiving, and trying to compete with the NFL for TV ratings will end badly for us. Iron Bowl on Saturday afternoon and then our game Saturday night is perfect. And, just as a general rule, anytime the sips want something, I want the opposite because F 'em that's why.

ESPN canceled our Thursday game with them for years because it wasn't a money maker. Now it would contend with Egg Bowl and NFL games. Plus it wasn't played on T'giving every year anyway.

ADDITIONALLY…and this what to be careful about…Texas scheduled annual home game on T'giving for years and failed at making money and followed us to the SEC. Are you SURE you want to take their business advice???
