"I've said for years if you hire Ivy league brains who also have a background in football as head coach, they would be lightyears ahead of every coach in intelligence. Texas A&M is running that experiment with Mike Elko."

Hopefully he doesn't do any "Beautiful Mind" photos drawing on a clear dry erase board like Coach Mensa.

They do know a thing about chasing a hired coach away though.

I do think there's a dangerous IQ in the 110 - 120 range where the guys are pretty smart, and they think they're smarter than everyone else. You get up around 130+, they're smart enough to know it, but not so smart that they can't learn anything new, and smart enough to stay in their lanes when a true genius comes along. Leach, Snyder, Saban....
94chem,
That, sir, was the greatest post in the history of TexAgs. I salute you. -- Dough

That IQ scale actually works in reverse; as the IQ goes closer to 90 the smarter the person thinks they are, usually. Around about 85 to 90 though a person's usually like, "Nah I'm just dumb."

Most folks in the perfectly average range of 95 to 105 are quite aware they are perfectly average, but good at the things they know how to do and practice often. Such a person might not know the first thing about math and be terrible at it, but by golly they're the best mechanic in the county.

Anything above 110 and it's mostly just narcissistic personality at that point. Narcissistic personalities are IQ agnostic.

FYI: College Gameday's Rece Davis said last month on ESPN's YouTube channel that Elko would've probably been the choice for the Michigan, Penn St, and Notre Dame HC jobs in the future had he not taken the A&M job.

The amount of crawfishing this guy is gonna have to do if the Vols ever hire Bill O'Brien is gonna be funny.

This is actually a data availability bias. Most people don't know their IQ. Narcissists DO know their IQ but they only tell you about it if it's high. If it's not they say IQ doesn't really matter.

I know plenty of extremely intelligent people who are very kind. There are also plenty of low IQ Narcissists. Just browse the zoo.

Maybe that's what drove the hesitation on him coming initially. Maybe that's why we fired Jimbo so quickly bc odds were Michigan would be looking at the end of the season either way.

Saban doesn't have a 130+ IQ, he has OCD. OCD makes really good coaches.

I'm used to listening to TexAgs, Josh Pate, and Andy Staples for college football content. Wow do these Tennessee guys suck in comparison to the quality I'm used to.

Why does our fan base have a need to be validated by other people?
NewEra2023

Not about validation. It's someone's unbiased opinion who write and talk about cfb for a living and not for shock value like a Colin Cowherd. What's your problem

The stupid validation seeking thread titles.

"Vols praise the hire".

No "they" didn't. One dude wrote a story. But you tried to make it way bigger than that (validation needed).

All the Vols have been caring about way bigger things this week.

Are you ok lol It's a title. He and his partner are vols. They praised the hire. The end.

It's not that deep.

Jason Garrett is very intelligent, very organized & disciplined. His problem was he didn't have any guts. He had a backup QB mentality and that carried over to the team. Elko may not have Dan Campbell cojones, but it'll be a far cry from Garrett.

Most of the people that I have known that have an IQ above 140 are not narcissists, and usually don't consider themselves that smart. It is because they realize how much they don't know.
