Most good programs do not "lose" coaches to other schools. Sometimes NFL.

Bama (Fran mostly due to sanctions, who else?)
Florida
Georgia
Michigan
tOSU
USC
Texas
LSU

The schools who have lost coaches recently are Notre Dame, Oregon, Washington, Florida State. Those schools have had success but they've also lost coaches for multiple reasons.

It's a shame LSU didn't get Jimbo…hindsight. Unfortunately, when coaches go through A&M, their careers are usually fubar.

I'm pretty sure we lost OC Bob Toledo to UCLA who then finished in the top 5 including a close win over us in the Cotton Bowl. Late 1990s. Our DC Bob Davie was hired away by Notre Dame to be head coach as well in the same time frame. I'm sure we have lost other coaches over the years just not head coaches.

And no, gas stations in La do not have better Cajun food than Houston. Maybe you don't frequent the right places?

Elko's turn will be next and that'll make another school stealing our coach twice (head, position coach). I bet that never happened before. A&M is known to be first at a lot positive and lately, negative.

Humor me with your good "Cajun" restaurants here in Houston. The only ones that are remotely edible are owned and operated by LA transplants. Please don't get me started in the abomination that is passed off as boiled crawfish around here.

Basketball is definitely different. Despite having all the resources in the world, men's basketball is the singular stepping stone program at A&M that other schools will poach.

Obviously it would be nice if Buzz can change that narrative and build a blue blood program out of it but it's a very long shot. He would basically have to become the next Coach K.

A&M is not a retirement destination for coaches, unless they prefer to be fired/let go into retirement.

No one seeks that to be the end result.
But it's been the reality.

Sumlin didn't retire
Sherman didn't retire
Fran didn't retire
RC did retire but he was not here to get a retirement package
Jackie didn't retire

There are a lot of transplants tho. Put it this way, it's easier to find good So La style food in Houston than good bbq or TexMex in New Orleans or Baton Rouge imo.

Boiled crawfish is not very hard to get right btw. I dunno about the restaurant offerings around here because when I want them I just do them myself . There are dozens of different ways to do it but the differences between them are small. I lived in Lafayette for 17 yrs and I don't think I ever saw any 2 people do it exactly the same tho.

Oh I can agree on that, It seems they stick to what they know best over there and don't try and re-create "authentic Tex-mex or Texas BBQ" like I see here with the "Cajun food" places. What really is funny is the amount of Asian/cajun places in Houston, such a strange combo.

How so? Cajun food has always been a cheaper alternative to creole, which had more upper class direct French influences. Cajun was Creole mixing with the coon ass population in LA and spread from there. Texas has a substantial population of Vietnamese and other Asian ethnicities running commercial fishing operations, so you had a natural melding of the two cuisines.

There is a pretty good episode about Houston Asian / Cajun cuisine on the Netflix cooking show Ugly Delicious

All good man. I think It's a Houston thing, South LA has a huge Vietnamese population due to fishing and Catholicism, but you don't see any Asian/Cajun combination joints.

If you're wanting to be a school whose coaches are hired away, you need to go down a few levels. Start rooting with the Tulanes, Fresnos, Florida Atlantics....

First it has already been shown on this thread several of our football coaches had interest from the Pros etc while coaching here. But you want to focus on your agenda that is not the case. Weird mountain to climb.

Second, not many schools would even try now a days bc they will not outbid us if we like our coach. LSU tried only bc the LSU AD had a relationship with Jimbo.

Schools like Washington and Arizona lose their coaches for a reason when they find a good one.

Our best coach since the Bear the sips used the media to pressure our administration to let him go. Thats much more telling than a school coming after your coach.

Coaches can be hit and miss. Also right place at the right time.

I guess we will find out if one is ever legitimately worth being coveted by a major program. Jimbo was wanted by LSU more because of Woodward than anything else. I doubt any other school wanted him given his ridiculous contract and one year of COVID season success. There are a small number of schools that I am confident coaches would rather be at, and they have money just like we do to over pay a coach.
