No way NCAA can enforce no NIL for a school after the previous court cases. NCAA is such a joke. I'm sure FSU will tell the to get bent and take them to court.
So sure you didn't check out the link.

Not only did FSU agree to disassociate itself from its collective for a period of time and suspend its OC for 3 games,
Quote:

. . . Other penalties that Florida State agreed to include two years' probation, the loss of five scholarships over two years, a $5,000 fine and several recruiting restrictions that include losing seven official visits, a six-week reduction in recruiting communications time and 24 fewer in-person recruiting days during the current academic year.
. . .
"We are pleased to reach closure to this situation and view this as another step in strengthening our culture of compliance at Florida State University," FSU athletic director Michael Alford said in a statement. "We take all compliance matters very seriously, and our full cooperation with the NCAA on this case is a clear example of that commitment. We remain committed to compliance with all NCAA rules including disassociation of the booster and the collective.". . .

FSU didn't tell the NCAA to get bent, FSU bent over according to the ESPN story.

Isn't that how Texas got Manning?

Texas has cheated with NIL to get many players, just as we and everyone else has. Manning is one of the few players that NIL was not likely needed in recruitment. His family is massively rich.

This is awesome. It is about time that someone gets punished for NIL pay-for-play. Contrary to what many seem to believe on this board, NIL pay-for-play is against NCAA rules. I didn't expect they could or would enforce the rules, but am very glad they did. Hopefully this discourages other universities and curtails the NIL cheating.

That said, I don't really know the impact of severing the relationship between a NIL collective and the university. I would think the collective could still lie and say NIL payments are for some "legal" NIL activity and pay a player. I guess it makes coordinated cheating harder. I don't know why the NCAA would allow collectives to ever have relationships with universities for NIL. I can see how that could be used for legitimate NIL purposes, but it is far more likely to be used for cheating.

Agree. FSU was NOT punished with no NIL for one year. They just severed the relationship between the university and their NIL collective.

The collective can still pay NIL money to athletes.

In this punishment, its not allowed to assist the school or donate money to the school

As a fan of a program that has been disproportionately victimized by the NCAA, it's really ironic that you'd blame the victim here.

Semantics.

They should open a new NIL, they have no shortage of names (similar to the Michael Scott paper company).

FSU has always had a corrupt football program. It's just the culture of Tallahassee and their boosters. When players do bad things local cops and big boosters would even cover it up and players get off very easy in ways regular troublemakers wouldn't. That they can't even get NIL right just shows how corrupt they are over football.
The Collective

So, are we going to pretend collectives don't work with programs? This is all so stupid.

No one says they don't work with them.

NCAA is a nutless paper tiger and the people working in the NCAA offices and administration are collecting incomes for just showing up and clocking in.

It's only a matter of time before college football and possibly college basketball break away and govern themselves. Then the NCAA can spend its time investigating and penalizing school's quidditch or video game sports programs.

So the reductions in official visits and schollys are real punishments.

But disassociate with their NIL collective? WTF does that even mean?

It means that there can be no communication or coordination between University/Program representatives and the FSU NIL collective. Its not that hard. You can't drive players on official visits (or unofficial visits) over to the NIL collective and introduce them to NIL collective people. It means coaches/staff can't call NIL officials and ask them to bump up NIL contracts on behalf of a prized recruit. Zero. Nada.

Honestly you can't get tricky here without blowing it up the 'firewall'. Zero contact. Zero discussions. No emails. No burner phone calls. No coaches wife calling the collective on behalf of coach. Require lawyers to be present if program and NIL people are in the same room. Businesses do this stuff all the time to prevent conflict of interest. There is nothing wrong with the player collecting NIL money...but if the program plays a role in the negotiation of that NIL contract and NCAA finds out...THE PROGRAM gets penalized. That is what you have here.

I didn't think the ruling is saying FSU players can't have NIL deals, just saying the school can't associate with their NIL collective. I'm not sure that that really means, though, because I thought they weren't supposed to be associated anyways (even though they all are).

They have to be. How can a coach recruit a kid and NOT have any insight into an NIL need to get the kid. Nice job, NCAA!

Other than something as blatant as driving them to the collective, I'm not sure how much dissociating the NIl collective really does. If the collective calls the FSU 247/Rivals/whomever, they can find out who those guys think are important recruits because more often than not, they get information from the programs they cover. So you have the 247 guy ask an assistant who is important, and the collective gets that info from 247 guy and makes them NIL offers.

Seems like a relatively minor inconvenience to me.

Yep. Remember a lot of TA on here were not even born when SMU got the death penalty. Courtesy t.u. And their political power and the Dallas Morning News in their back pocket. Fact.
it was courtesy of their own paid players talking to the media and ncaa when they got kicked out of SMU. plus 3 of their staff showed up on the news for an interview and got exposed with proof of payments coming directly from the recruiting office.

If anyone wanted to turn them in it would be us for taking Eric Dickerson from us after we gave him that trans am

UT getting investigated now also

The NCAA is investigating Tennessee for what are believed to be alleged major violations related to NIL dealings, sources confirm to CBS Sports' Dennis Dodd. The case centers around quarterback Nico Iamaleava, who signed a record contract with Spyre Sports Group, Tennessee's primary collective. Tennessee has not received a formal notice of allegations from the NCAA, but it is common in some cases for the governing body to send a draft notice of preliminary violations it is investigating.
