Washington injury and timeout?

Bottom line, on Washington's last series, regardless of what happened prior, a first down isn't even needed.

Better use of time and you can effectively run the clock down and not have to punt.

Really isn't that complicated. They used up 3 and 4 seconds of clock on first and second down.

Here is how you do it:

First down QB rolls out and eats up more time on the clock. Can even run backwards some if he wants.

Second down, same thing. Clock should now be at something closer to 55 seconds or so instead of 1:02.

Third down same thing but now out of TOs so after this play is run there should be more than 48-49 seconds left before 4th down.

Now on fourth down you do not punt, you do the same thing only now you have the QB throw the ball as high and far as he can out of bounds. The clock doesn't stop until the ball hits something out of bounds (Texas remembers this from their Nebraska game. This would t happen until the clock hits zero, game over.
Nothing looks more foolish than tradition to those who have none.

Repeatedly snapping the ball with 10-15 seconds is completely boneheaded when your opponent needs every second.
You're thinking of UCLA and the Ags.

Texas called TO on 2nd down, then Wash threw it on 3rd stopping the clock on the last FG.

Wash wasn't "Repeatedly snapping the ball with 10-15 seconds ", they snapped in when they were ready as the game clock was stopped b/c of Texas Time Outs.

On the last two drives, they did snap it with time left. 9 seconds on one of them that I saw because I was getting annoyed they weren't waiting for 2 seconds or so.

There is risk to every snap of the ball, especially when you are a shotgun based offense. There is risk of a bad snap. There is always risk of a fumble on every run. That is part of the game.

Having said that, I agree with the first two runs, a first down ends the game. BUT when it was 3rd and 5, UW should have taken a knee there. Running for 5 yards against 8 in the box was not going to happen. At that point just take a knee and run the clock all the way down, even taking a delay of game to burn one more second off. Then punt it through the end zone. Then cow has the ball at the 20 with about 10-15 seconds left.

UW massively mismanaged the 4Q. The one 3 and out series where they tried the flea flicker, up only 6 at the time, was stupid and didn't run any clock. The low % pass on 3rd down before the last FG was also stupid, should have run the ball there.

Having said that, I am 100% certain this rule and clock situation will be addressed by the rules committee in the off-season and changed. UW did NOT call a timeout. By rule due to the injury the clock stopped and would not start until the ball was snapped. That is BS. Cow was out of TOs, 3rd down was a run, OK they have to stop the clock due to injury and I get that the play clock would then be reset to 25 and not 40, but the rule should be both the play clock AND GAME clock should have started rolling when the ref blows the whistle after the injured player is off the field. In reality, the team trailing, with NO TOs and needing to stop the clock, is given an extra TO due to an injured player ON THE OTHER TEAM. That makes no sense. If a cow player was injured it would have been a 10 second runoff and the clock would have started at the ready whistle.

So glad it worked out the way it did, would have ruined my entire holiday season if cow won that game!!!!!! F cow, ready for them to play a real schedule now and not squeak out wins vs. UH and tcu and play a terrible OSU team in the champ. game, an OSU team that I am fairly certain 7-5 A&M beats with our full strength team, even with back up QB 2, 3 or 4....
