Who should the new DC be??? We have a good amount of money and obviously will be looking to try and upgrade if we are willing to lose ERob over it. DJ is pretty high do we keep him or look a spot below and try and get a HC in waiting and try and steal Schumann and make him DC/Assistant HC. We wanted him anyway why not get the best of both worlds...

Total defense doesn't tell the whole story.

After some have looked at who Elko has worked with in the past I'm liking Adam Fuller.

If we're able to poach anyone from FSU's staff we better go for it.

I think they are going to try and go scorched earth on everyone next year I would be surprised if I see any changes with FSU… unless they say screw it and burn it all down because winning doesn't matter anyway!

Hasn't Iowa been known for a solid defense for the last several years? What about hiring their DC?

Just looking at this season's scoring by teams against Iowa (not sure if any of those points might have been scored by opponent's defense of special teams) - check this out:

Last year's Music City Bowl - they SHUT OUT the team the SEC put up against them, Kentucky.

Then, this year points against: 14, 13, 10, 31 (their first loss - to Penn State), 16, 14, 6, 12, 7, 0, 13, 10, and then gave up 26 against Michigan in last week's Championship game.

Of course one has to consider the offensive prowess (or lack thereof) of their conference foes...

STILL that is freaking IMPRESSIVE! - Iowa held 12 out of their last 14 opponents to 2 touchdowns or less (I'm counting the 16 points as two TDs) Even Jimbo's offense could've won all of those 12 games!!!

Without any other information such as what type of scheme they run, etc. I would think looking at the Iowa DC or at least some of his defensive coaches might be worth considering.

Iowa's defense is all about a fairly basic scheme and fundamentals. Been that way since Ferentz has been there. Very fun to watch.

Phil Parker came on to the staff with Ferentz in 1999 and coached DBs under Norm Parker (no relation), who had the same type of basic, fundamentally sound scheme. Phil Parker has been so long in the Iowa culture I'm not sure it would translate to a new school or conference.

IMO, Ferentz has always been one of the most overpaid coaches in college football, but it's amazing that he's making $7 million/year and his bad-ass DC is only making $595,000 (according to Wikipedia)

Is Elko going to be calling plays or the DC? That's the number one question that needs to be answered before we can decide.

Elko will have a heavy hand in the Defense...so I expect a bit of someoone who follows his philosophy and ok to be over-ridden in decisions/play calling. DC is the lesser concern with Elko as that's his specialty.

Now, OC is the real question regarding how to advance that side of the ball with 'today's' college game.

Before we can decide? I'm guessing we won't have a vote in this.

Elko will not be calling the plays. He's going to be a true HC

Did you actually take the time to think these words and then type them?

On no planet is Georgia losing that dude for a lateral job.

Co-DC to solo DC and assistant Head Coach wouldn't be a lateral job move. Does he or Muschamp or Kirby call the defense/make the defensive game plan/run the team segments?? Those unknowns are I think the reason why during the vetting process for HC he was deemed unready for HC similar to ERob not being ready for DC. There needs to be a point in time to stand on your own and our DC job would give him more of an opportunity plus possibly more money.

I don't think the Iowa concepts translate to the SEC and the players we recruit. I believe Durkin will have a chance to stay.

I hope you are correct in Durkin having a chance to stay. He started on the wrong foot but he got it straightened out and IMO is definitely workable. With Elko as the HC he could 'fix' some of Durkin's defense and we'd be rolling. We can damn sure do a lot worse.....

"Got it straightened out"? You mean to the tune of Ole Miss putting 518 yards and 38 points on us? LSU putting up 390 and 42?
The reason that happened is because against two tough QBs, he went running like a little **** back to his baby, the 3 man front. And got shredded playing a scared defensive style. He ran a more basic attacking style against Ark, Auburn , Bama and Tennessee to much greater effect. Elko would have to lean on him pretty hard to keep with that style.

Or he could just hire someone he trusts and doesn't have to babysit
