After watching a number of championship games this weekend, the one common denominator I kept hearing is how all the teams have used the portal to get to this point.
Elko has got to take advantage of the portal.
Fisher did not from what I can tell.
The fact that Lsu might have their second heisman trophy QB in 4 years from the portal speaks volumes.
We got to get off our a$$ and get the help we need to really compete.

We don't have the national pull that most of these teams have to get good portal kids. We haven't won enough recently. The big name transfers from Bama, Ohio State, Georgia, etc. are not going to come to College Station. They never have.

They never have in all the 3-4 years the portal has existed in its present form during which time we had a coach who didn't utilize said portal? Why, we should just quit football.

While I want to agree, transfers have changed drastically in the time we had Jimbo. And while Jimbo recruited well, he never went after the portal aggressively. So, we really don't know.

Absolutely must fill talent gaps in the secondary from the portal as well as linebacker due to 45 departing for the NFL I presume. I think we're in decent shape elsewhere . OL was not primarily a talent issue but rather a major coaching and scheme issue

NIL money and a chance for playing time ( especially at OL and DB) could attract numerous decent players.
As folks have pointed out...Jimbo never really aggressively pursued portal.
A&M should be able to offer $ignificant re$ource$ to prospective transferees.

Jimbo didn't use the portal at all. When he did get a former 5 star they never played a down (Grimes) at a position of need.
