I will be surprised if the wealthiest football program in the country released their head coach mid-season to keep recruits, without having the next coach lined up first. That just wouldn't make sense.

Glad it's a real search casting a wide net. No, we did not have someone lined up. And that's okay

If you are hiring a successful head coach from another P5 program you will not say anything until after their regular season.

If you are hiring a coordinator from a CFP caliber team you might not be saying anything until they are eliminated

If you are hiring a coach from an unsuccessful program, why?

Not stupid. We've got a year now to make the best choice! Next year is shot anyway, so just let the interim HC do his thing. We've nothing to lose, so we need to take our time and make the right choice.

Huh? I wonder if we do have our guy and the coaching search is a smokescreen to allow him to finish out the season without the publicity.

I'm sure a lot of people have been interviewed and I guarantee you won't hear anything til the season is over. And despite what the braintrust here at TexAgs would have you believe, it's a gamble on how they'll actually perform no matter what conference we pull them from. Maybe this is a bad place to take a sample but our fanbase has become as toxic, fickle, and haughty as every school we think we're better than.

This. When you fire, You have at least a list and you know that 'worst case, we can get this guy'. But if you don't have THE specific guy targeted and locked yet, that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

They have been talking to agents for quite some time. They have had a good idea who will take it.
