What kind of Dewsh A&M source gifts the scoop to Bohls?

Bohls is a beat reporter; he's had sources in the AD forever.

But I wouldn't be surprised if Traylor's agent was the source. Good opportunity to raise his client's profile.

Forever is the key word. He and Robert Cessna may be the current longest tenured Texas sports writers in their respective roles.

Quote:

Bjork interviewed Traylor for 90 minutes on a Zoom call, a conversation that lasted an hour longer than had been scheduled.
That's the kind of information that could only have come via his agent.

Probably the same one that told him Mike Sherman would be fired.

I'm hoping it's one of those things like, Let's go ahead and get this out of the way first so we can say he was interviewed. Then the interview paper work was thrown in the trash.

Why does this surprise anyone? I'd imagine there are going to be a dozen or so interviews in one form or another. What successful or even semi successful G5 coach wouldn't want this job? It's not bad publicity to let it be known you're willing to talk to anyone interested. That's good public relations. And due diligence.

Good, we are supposed to be interviewing coaches. Kind of the point of a coaching search. Some bomb, some go better than expected. At least have to try

Classic Texags

"We need to do an extensive search for a new coach!!"

A&M does an extensive search

"Why are we interviewing all these people!!"

Nothing is leaking from our end.

Everything is likely coming from Traylor's end. Probably to get his name out there. We have interviewed quite a few guys. Yet he's the only one we know about.

Well put. I stated on another thread that when we were looking last time we got a lot of coaches a raise that had no intentions coming here. Just part of the game

Surely the AD wouldn't make a hire after just a 90 minute Zoom call. Hopefully, as others have implied, this is just to check-off a box and get to the real candidates.

Traylor checks a lot of boxes, if he is a check-box candidate.
- White
- Male
- Middle-aged
- HC

Those are probably the hardest check-boxes to get. Glad we got them early.

Now for the DEI checkbox interviews.

Why would you interview someone you have no intention of hiring? It's a waste of your time and his time. Makes no sense at all. Just because someone is interested is no reason to interview them.

They interviewed him because they want him. Traylor is the new coach. Watch and see.

I love that we are entertaining multiple coaches. Interview the field and then pick the best. Who is most hungry? Who wants to be at A&M? Who is using A&M for money? etc.

If we interview a dozen or more, and then make a choice, I would be comfortable with the decision and process.

If it is Traylor after a dozen interviews...LET'S GO!

If it is Schumann after a dozen interviews...LET'S GO!

If it is not Meyer, Dabo, Danning, etc., after a dozen interviews...LET'S GO!

Not true. You interview a Traylor type because he does have potential but all you're doing now is creating a relationship so that if you need to look again in 3 years, you already paved the way.

Wait, what??? "Willing to talk to anyone interested"? WTF kind of strategy is that???? Hell, I'm interested!!!! When's my interview??

You sift thru the myriad of resumes you've got on your desk (he's the AD for God's sake - he should/better have PLENTY) and you pick/interview the ones that will take this program to THAT NEXT level. And Traylor ain't it.
You damn sure don't start with the first one that's on the pile…..

If you're an AD, why not take this opportunity to interview some assistants that you might not hire today but might want down the road? It's the perfect time to build your Rolodex.

Traylor is headed somewhere, let's hope it's College Station. #210TriangleOfToughness #BirdsUp

Nothing says "we want this guy" like scheduling a 30 minute zoom call interview.

Why wouldn't A&M interview someone who meets minimum qualifications, is a former Texas high school football coach, and is respected across the state? It's a smart, respectful move by A&M to give a guy 90 minutes, even if you have no intention of hiring him.

Agreed - especially since San Antonio is so far from College Station

It's a pre-screen. Extremely common first step in any recruiting process. There will be extensive vetting once the final candidate pool is established (top 2 or 3).

It was just interesting the most controversial of the interviews someone in AD leaks it to Bohls of all people. Not the look I'd want. Maybe someone wanted it out there to put pressure to not hire Traylor.

Traylor is always going to be a fallback option. He's not at the top of the list.

I guess if he killed it during the interview and the other candidates sucked he may move up.

You are talking to potential new hire and you allocate half an hour. Takes 10 minutes to just get pleasantries out of the way.

So you waste an interview and choose someone else. I'd feel real good about being interviewed and not being picked. That would build a great relationship with me.

Having a relationship is completely meaningless. 99% of the coaches hired don't have relationships with the school that hires them.

Bjork most likely won't be the AD on the next hire anyway. Those guys come and go.
