Young, smart, great recruiter, native Texan! He rebuilt the program that Jimbo cratered, and has them on the doorstep of a Playoff birth. He also didn't explicitly deny interest in the job. Guy seems like a slam dunk for Texas A&M.

Or if you're a little gun shy about another Florida State guy, you could always hit I-10 south a little ways and grab that other young up and comer in Gainesville, he'd also be an excellent fit I do believe. Either way you look at it, you can't go wrong, the future of Aggie football lies in the Sunshine State!

Jimbo did not crater the Fla St program. Otherwise, we would not have given him a 100 million $ contract.

Exactly. Who wouldn't want a young, Playoff caliber coach? Y'all had zero issue punking Free Shoes for Jimbo, you should have less of an issue punking them again for a native son.

I don't think I could handle stealing another FSU coach only for him to flounder here while FSU reloads with another coach who takes them to the playoffs lol

If he's doing this well at Florida State, why would he want to uproot and move to TAMU? It'd be a fool's errand.

After Mike Norvell went 3-6 (2-6 ACC) and 5-7 (4-4 ACC) in his first two years at Florida State, he went 10-3 (5-3 ACC) last year. Now, Florida State is 10-0 and could become a 13-0 ACC Champion. Norvell is unlikely to leave Florida State after turning them into a CFP contender.

I agree with OP.

I think Norvell is the guy we should get, and I think we will.

I could argue that's why we should hire him. Less likely to grab 2 failures in a row from same place from separately-run programs.

Norvell could be a great choice, but our search-committee and Bjork better watch every single game he and every serious candidate has coached for the last 2-3 years. Can't have a strong opinion on Norvell without knowing a ton more about his every game there and relationships. Certainly recruiting very good despite rough seasons the last 2 years there. That should tell you he's a heck of a recruiter.

Common sense says the decision makers are not going to hire two consecutive coaches from Florida State. The optics alone says it won't happen.

It won't be Norvell. Another FSU coach.

It won't be Lanning. His true buyout according to Looch because of NIKE stuff is around $50 million.

It won't be Kiffin. Looch has explicitly said that.

It won't be Deion. He is not leaving his sons and Travis Hunter in Boulder to play for another coach and they used up their free transfer already.

Just some help with the above candidate filtering. Ya'll can for sure not talk about the above 4. Also, it won't be Saban or Kirby Smart or Jim Hsrbaugh either

Happy to help!

Add Jon Gruden, Nick Saban, Kirby Smart and Dan Campbell to that list as well.

I am dense. Why would it embarrass A&M at all to hire away a FSU coach twice consecutively? If anything it is a Texas and SEC money flex.

I will offer then yet another reason. He has a team going to the CFP next month, FSU is a top tier job, and he isn't going to drop all that in the next 10 days to come to Texas. Does that now satisfy you?

Pro tip: when programs manage to stay relevant over many years and multiple coaches, its not really the coaches making it happen.

On the flip side you have A&M

In 2017, I was a Norvell guy, but Texags was all about moneywhipping Jimbo.

And I suspect that having just gotten rid of a former AAC/G5 head coach from Houston in Sumlin, they weren't going to do another AAC/G5 coach from Memphis. The background of the new coach has to be meaningfully different for the hiring minds.

Fire college guy Fran. Hire the NFL coach. (USC in middle of dominant run with their NFL guy)
Fire old Sherman. Hire the youthful college guy from down the street. (Briles in middle of successful Baylor run)
Fire Sumlin. Go with the older, more successful guy from FSU.
Fire Jimbo....? Makes me think they may go youthful, OC guy, possibly with NFL experience.

This is why I did not want Jimbo in the first place. He looked just like Fran and Sumlin. Had a few good years to start and then it turned over. Look at his record at FSU after the natty and he left the FSU program in shambles, it is now recovering its former glory.

He won't 10 games a year every year but the last one where he was down to his 3rd or 4th string QB. The only real warning sign was all of the FSU fans talking about how despite consistently having top 5 recruiting classes, his OL was trash. That turned out to be 100% accurate.
