No, you just tear up Jimbo's termination agreement and keep him around for another year.Sq 17 said:
Traylor is the in case of emergency brake glass pick
Making him appear like he was always on the shortlist makes it better if we can't get one of the top four or five guys one he gets the job and we don't have the embarrassment the Tennessee or Texas had the last time they went looking for a coach
I think Traylor is being shoved into Ross's face by media, BMA's and other folks around the program so he has no choice ut to interview the guy and keep him "under consideration"Sq 17 said:

If A&M gets another RC Slocum then there won't be many bowl games won. Out of all the bowls the Ag's went to under Slocum they only won two. Too conservative of an offense was always Coach Slocum's downfall. He depended too much on his defense to control the game.OBJTEX said:

All the sips in the office think Traylor would be a "great fit" for A&M. That should tell you everything you need to know.
If it's between the two "meh" candidates in Elko and Traylor you choose Elko 10 out of 10

Traylor will not be able to recruit nationally. And it is going to take that level to win like we expect.

The way we do contracts, the way we do extensions, the way we throw around money, I suspect the line of those who want to be here is rather long.OBJTEX said:lagoag said:Thisvander54 said:

Traylor is politicking for it.
At least we know he wants to be here. Id be fine with either and i'd argue that is who we will select from

Disagree. Winning is what gets players nationally.
He is not my top choice but he will do great things here if he is the selection.
Id hire Lanning but he is looking unavailable. Traylor is great second or third choice.

A big name? How many letters are we talking?Jason Stegent said:
It's going to be a big name, I believe. A really big name.
You don't shell out $76M for a guy to leave and not bring in a big name behind him.

Jimbo was able to pull 4 and 5 star guys nationally because he had skins on the wall. "Come play for me, I've won a natty and know what it takes to get it done. We are building that here, come be a part of it."
Traylor has no such skins, and can't make that pitch. He also has never been a DC or OC that has won a natty or coached a heisman winner (Sark or anybody from UGA/Bama). All Traylor can say is that he knows how to beat Western Kentucky when it matters.
Traylor would be able to maybe keep us in the conversation for some of the top Texas players like we are now. He has nothing to sell the 4 star or 5 star in GA or FL. He'd have to rely on his staff to pull a bunnies out their hats

I think a modern RC Slocum is what the referral is about.
Of course, the style of play will be different as football is different.
He still is the most successful coach in our history.

While I agree Jimbo is a good recruiter, but I'd also suggest the other coaches played a large part in the success, and my gut tells me the biggest factor is the facilities. You know recruits fall in love with the state of the art facilities and the thought of playing in front of 105k+ people every home game.
