I just heard someone on the radio describe the buyout as donors footing the $19M one time payment and the yearly payments being subtracted from the annual athletics budget. Is that accurate? It seems like the athletics budget may miss the $9M per year. How big is the annual athletics budget?

Iirc Donors still help fund athletic dept I am guessing a few donors have pledged a little extra to prevent the dept from feeling the pinch

Did you not see the $160,477,000 check that was donated at halftime Saturday night? There's your answer!

Yes this is true. In fact Bjork stated the revenue would need to be increased to account for this new expense. Guess where their revenue comes from....higher ticket prices and more donations. The athletic department has no problem spending your money.

The 12thman Fondation is paying the one time initial payment and the athletic department will pay the yearly payments. Bjork said the new TV contracts as well as new sponsors and more efficient budget for football should cover the cost but they are going to sit down with Jimbo's team and try to workouta deal.

Pay it out and be done with it. Whatever we can get in future payment reduction is probably not worth it.

Just have to tie coaching pay to performance moving forward and, yes, be willing to let a future HC walk, we'll find someone else. For a normally self confident bunch we are strangely easy to capitulate when it comes to negotiating contracts with coaches.

My guess is that the whole buyout is being negotiated since there's the whole playing Max with broken ribs issue

Why would Fisher or his team negotiate? Seems pretty straight forward unless he was fired for cause, which I doubt.

We should pay him in pennies stored in 5 gal water jugs. I bet the contract doesn't say anything about that.

Or better yet loose change that has to be sorted out and counted.

Tues?

You don't think they had other plans for the new TV contract money? How exactly does the football budget become more efficient? New sponsorship money solely to pay a coach not to be here?

None of this makes much sense. They spend money like they have way too much and have no better use for it. That might be true, but that isn't what Bjork said. They are talking out of both sides of their mouth, I just don't know which is true. Either way, I'm done donating to these people.

I'm quite sure those pennies would be converted to a direct deposit before Jimbo ever woke up from his nap after second breakfast…

Need a better plan to win than to just throw money at the program.

Yes the resources help but gotta be used to support success and incentivize it, instead of just hoping somehow magic will occur

It makes a lot of sense. We are about to gain millions more/year next year. We are renewing contracts with vendors and it's possible to get new/better sponsors. Then you find a way to cut some spending in football. It is very possible the football was extremely inflated under Jimbo.

Regardless, it's a sickening amount of money that he never deserved. The people who are responsible for signing him should pay it.

Seems to me our athletic department should be shouldering most of the blame. While there have been improvements in many other sports at A&M, football has not improved since RC was ousted. Our facilities are now first class, talent is great, now if we could only find a coach to match.

This will be a difficult position to fill. The expectations are so high, I think a lot of coaches are not even going to consider coming because of the expectation and needing to deliver soon.

Yes we have money, facilities, talent, and a great fan base which are all wonderful reasons to come, but unrealistic expectations are hard to overcome.

It's the opposite, we've never really held coaches to those expectations. If we did both Sumlin and Fisher would not have gotten the time they did.

He doesn't have to make any concessions, but he might prefer to defer some of that income for tax reasons.

Both Sumlin and Jimbo did produce quickly, they couldn't sustain it beyond year 4
