Sips are literally coping with the fact we just improved by firing Jimbo. All their comments on their boards are either about how they're shocked we fired Jimbo and needed us to keep him, or it's about money which is another coping mechanism for the fact we just destroyed their 2025 class recruiting advantages.

Let's see LSU and Auburn have fired coaches that won the National Championships for those programs. LSU dumped Orgeron in 2021 after he won the title in 2019. Auburn dumped Chizik in 2012 after he brought them a natty in 2010. Plus there was a time in recent memory when the t-sips were paying 3 head coaches at the same time. The Aggie joke would be if we messed up this hire and in 4 years are paying 3 HCs ourselves.

1. Trying to steer the narrative and get people to think what they want.
2. Emotional reactions without evaluating the other side of the equation.
We proved.
1. We made a mistake in what we believed Jimbo was going to accomplish.
2. We recognized that mistake and would not accept mediocrity.
3. We have the ability to correct mistakes, recognize the need for improvement,
and have the funds to do it at levels others do not.

The big joke is we just paid a record amount for a coach to NOT coach here, which is 300% larger than the 2nd highest buy-out of all time and won't be exceeded by any other institution until the next century. IMO, all we can do is support the players (kids) and cheer them on as they are representing our Univ during a game / entertainment that's hopefully exciting to watch. Yes, like to see the team competitive and in the 'conversation' via winning SEC division, SEC and maybe a NC, but do not worry about it nor let anyone's opinion affect my perspective on it.

Did we have to pay him a prorated amount? No, we'll have to pay him the entire amount over an extended period of time for doing absolutely nothing. Now we'll also get to pay the new guy an incremental $XMM/year to fill the coaching vacancy. Do I understand that money dedicated to athletics is not zero sum and does not affect academics? OP is an "Aggie" that somehow works tu and tceh into just about every post. A&M could still potentially have 9 wins this season, and most of sports media has highlighted that the new coach will have everything he needs to make A&M an instant contender (loaded roster, worldclass facilities, national brand recognition, geographically favorable, excellent fan support, and deeps pockets with virtually unlimited resources).

The perception of others helps people make good choices. It isn't always good to consider perceptions, but the suggestion that perception doesn't matter is wrong as well.
We look irresponsible. We flaunt money and are irresponsible with it. Ohio State and Texas have just as much money and don't act like this.
We should learn from this and the perception of us as a joke should "sting" and cause the University to act more responsibly. No more insane contracts that move the needle on pay and buyouts. No more fake NC trophies. Cut down on the over the top arrogance.
We haven't had a lot of success in football, but we should act like we have. That doesn't mean be arrogant and highlight non-existent accomplishments, but act mature and responsible and run the program like a successful program.
