Since everyone else is throwing out names.

Go ahead, tell me why he would be a bad hire.

Same reason I'm adverse to Traylor. Competition level isn't even close to SEC

Good coach; I'm kinda wary of anything coming out of Liberty.
Undefeated there. Did great at Coastal Carolina before that and Charleston Southern before that.

Maybe he is one of those coaches that only does great at small schools though.

Would be nice to get someone hungry and still looking to prove something rather than on the downslope.

He's coaching a Freese team

The way I look at it is you either get an up-and-comer with something still left to prove or someone who already accomplished something and is looking for the job to retire at or easy street.

Well, he's certainly been vetted and passed on in multiple coaching carousels by what we would consider to be "inferior" schools?

So I guess maybe our "search firm" folks would see something…all the rest didn't?

(You don't get passed on with that resume that often unless something doesn't make sense…)

Who passed on him?

He probably doesn't even want to leave Liberty after only one year anyway.

Liberty does, allegedly, pay exceptionally well.
Wikipedia says $4 million/year. Not sure how accurate that is.

I don't get how people argue this. A good coach is independent of the conference he's in. Washington's head coach was in the Mountain West. Lanning was a freaking assistant who had never been a HC. Mike Norvell was at an American athletic conference school. I can go on and on

That's why we're in the position we're in. Aggies have such an inferiority complex we think we need someone from a big conference or school to win. The last coaches after Slocum are from

SEC
NFL
Conference USA
ACC

The coach from Conference USA had the best win %

IMO Chadwell is more likely to end up being the guy than many of the other names being thrown out.
My posts are "... based on limited information, type casting and speculation."

I liked Chadwell at Coastal and he had Grayson McCall looking like an NFL QB (won't watch Liberty for Liberty reasons), but I'm wary of offensive gurus who run a unique system like he does… is there another pitch in that toolbox?

The short answer is no. You've got to have some kind of SEC connection or experience. We are in a different league and Liberty to A&M without ever having coached in the SEC is a no.

You're a week late - https://texags.com/forums/5/topics/3416796/replies/66119548

Chadwell needs to be on the list. He won't be cheap, but we need to find the next DeBoer instead of hiring DeBoer. As I don't think DeBoer leaves UW so soon, especially since his daughter just signed to play softball there. Besides, it would be nice to see DeBoer/UW without Pennix - which we don't have that luxury.

This "has to have an SEC connection" is mind boggling to me.

Agreed. Why do we handcuff ourselves with such stupid requirements?

Only downside I can see is that Chadwell is represented by Sexton.

DeBoer is represented by Juan Lozano.

That's exactly why we should hire him. We struck out with all the big names.

We need a guy in his mid-40s who wants to be a big name. Not an over the hill coach who wants to get rich, fat, & lazy.

The coach from Conf USA got to ride the JFF lightning with Sherman's team for two years, then fell on his face when he actually had to goto work.

I'm actually with you on that. i was just having fun. Also, I'm a big believer in a very small guarantee contract, with generous allowances for top coordinators and very big payouts for results. A successful coach, and one who knows he will succeed, will not be worried about moving on from A&M up the ladder, or worried about his job security.
