Boy, the national perception of Texas A&M has certainly changed since our last hire.

Looking back, it's incredible how much. The narrative last time was basically "who the hell does little ol A&M think they are"? and "no one leaves Fl State for Texas A&M" People generally were unaware across the country, and even in the SEC, just how stacked this program was or was about to be.

Now, I'm hearing Finebaum and Doering and the other guy sitting around talking about how amazing it is that Texas A&M is NOT currently among the perenniall Top 10 programs.

We are now know for our failure and frustration to NOT be where people in the darkest corners of their mind know we easily could be.Also, there's a lot of hate and resentment that wasnt there 6 years ago. But the bottom line is that people think about A&M in a much different light, better or worse.

The perception now is holy sheet the Century Club can print money. It also helps that y'all have top notch facilities, a great recruitment base in Texas, in the best football conference, and fans who will pack the stadium, even in down seasons. Y'all have had the last 4 of those for 10+ years now but dudes handing over $160M checks at halftime to the Athletics department, that's special is what that is.

We may be joked on as a fanbase and our leadership may look stupid in some capacity for the initial contract. However, given the buyout that is being paid now I think it's clear to everyone that we are not pretenders. Excellence is the goal no matter the price.

I actually loved Finebaum's comment. They could buy Bama, LSU, Auburn with their petty cash. I don't think anyone can question our commitment right now to having a top notch program.

I view this firing as A HUGE POSITIVE.
Both in terms of coaching and in terms of TAMU sending a message that we bat sht crazy. Let's roll!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, there aren't a lot of programs firing their coach the morning after crushing one of the perennia thorn-in-the-side conference mates 51-10 and heading to a bowl game at 7-5 or 8-4. Jimbo's right about one thing,

"it aint like it used to be"

When it comes to hiring or supporting football coaches… just off the top of my head… over the years would have A&M hired or kept…

- an insurance salesman, interim coach, Clemson did
- an average coach from Mich St, LSU did
- an average coach from Ok St, LSU did
- an average coach from Ok St, Miami did
- no HC experience, DC, Georgia did
- keep a HC for 22 years before winning the first of three national titles, Nebraska did

None of these people care about A&M. They are paid to talk about college football for hours on end and this is a gold mine for them.

Our administration spent money like a crackhead lottery winner. What coach wouldn't want to come take advantage of that?

The simple fact that A&M can casually let $75m fall out of their back pocket to pay a coach to not coach has people's jaws hitting the floor... because A&M can pay the next $75m and still not miss the money. While paying for facility upgrades. While still funding recruiting programs that rank among the nation's best. While also paying the assistants top dollar. A lot of people, even here, didn't think they would pay out that money and yet Bjork was just like, "Nah man, we got plenty of money, it wasn't even a conversational point."

They realize that A&M actually is really, really serious about buying a battering ram big enough to finally break down the door, and has the Best Effing Everything except football coach, including top 5 talent on the roster.

Love was Pate had to say today. Anyone who knows what they're talking about knows what we are one great hire away from being a juggernaut. The coaches in consideration know that. Our rivals know that. Yeah, we've underperformed and don't have much to show for our efforts, but that could all change very quickly with the right dude. We shall see.

The current roster is what we have to show.

It's more important than the facilities and coaches no that too.

Better figure out how to keep that defense, Weigman, Henderson, and the WRs.

Why do people keep arguing this? MSSt is terrible. We SHOULD have won by that much. We also SHOULD have won against bama, Tenn, and Ole Miss.

A great hire isn't going to look at this as NEEDING to keep all of Jimbo's recruits. Sure, wouldn't hurt if some key ones stayed, but they're going to see that if Jimbo recruited like that here, so can they. And the right guy can actually turn elite recruiting into results, unlike Jimbo.

While it's better, the perception is we are still behind the likes of Georgia, Alabama, LSU, Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, and Tennessee.....according to at least Finebaum and Matt Barrie most recently.

t.u. somehow pulling out 3 point wins every week against the Little Sisters of the Poor isn't exactly what I aspire to. Nor is getting beat by an Arkansas team who turned right around and got thumped by 38 in their home crib by a bad Auburn team.

You all are a disgrace to this program. Never have I ever seen so many pu$$ies commenting on things that they have no IDEA what they are talking about. Leave it to the Educated and people that have the heart to make the decisions. Go back to your cubicles and shut the F... up.

I don't know how many times we've been over crap like this. Osborne NEVER failed to win 9 games in a season.

EVER.

The lowest Nebraska ever finished in the AP poll under him was 24th. Other than that one year (1990), it was 15th. He had 15 10+ game winning seasons. You can make excuses about how he did it and all, but he did it.

Call me when we've ever had a coach come close to those numbers and I'll write out the apology letter for their firing and/or pot banging on here myself.

Jimbo was a likable guy, but many folks I talked to throughout the south east warned me he was a snake oil salesmen. In retrospect, I think they were right. And I also think we liked Jimbo way more than most. That's why firing his ass isn't really alienating us with many.

Btw, when Mack Brown got hired, he basically sold himself into that job. I really believe we have a fantastic opportunity for a winner coach (players, facilities, fans). The right coach will sell us on HIM, not us having to moneywhip another Jimbo.

With a dad from Nebraska, I know those stats, too. My point was A&M would have fired him, too, with the excuse he is a good coach, but he can't get us over the finish line, we have to make a change, we are in neutral, not getting any better.

Aggies just can't help themselves.

No. You are wrong. No we would not have fired any coach with that kind of stellar record. We never have and we never will.

Osborne also won 13 conference titles and went to a bowl game every single year during an era where there much fewer bowl games. No A&M coach has ever been in his league.

not sure where you're getting that take. the posts are talking about the perception of a&M, not that's it complimentary. As stated, there's a lot more hate and resentment than there used to be, but the old perception that we're some bit player in college football is smashed to pieces.

It is always about the personnel that is hired. Same in business. We expected Jimbo to work out and accepted Scott Woodard decision and now we have to move on because the guy was not the guy.

Josh Pate is beating his head against a wall arguing that A&M is an elite "opportunity," while idiots on Twitter respond "dERR DeRr DeRR 8-4" and "wEIrd CUlt."

Apparently the distinction between "opportunity to win" and "past results" is too complex for most *&*^% college football fans.
