Yes our sideline missed it and the refs missed it, Kiffin even half admitted it was illegal - https://sports.yahoo.com/lane-kiffin-dug-deep-bag-010800100.html

From the article:
"You can't have the intent to deceive," he said. "Jordan was just running off like he was coming off and he stopped before and took a big split behind the ball on our sidelines when the ball was on the far hash. And they didn't notice him, so it was a really good play by our players."

Indeed, Approved Ruling 9-2-2 of the NCAA rulebook states under the Unfair Tactics section, "No simulated replacements or substitutions may be used to confuse opponents. No tactic associated with substitutes or the substitution process may be used to confuse opponents."

I would say they it was a simulated substitution, therefore it was illegal. The Center Judge even made Dart hold the snap so we could complete our sub to defend their sub.

or you could say he was running to play a wideout position. there is not a rule that states where he has to stop and line up. its called 'coaching"

I don't make the rules. That was an illegal play. Congrats to Lane for tricking an incompetent officiating team and a sub-par coaching staff.

Lane didn't need to break the rules to embarrass our secondary. Even if the penalty was called they probably still score.

Watched the game. Satisfied Ole Miss was superior team, but why hasn't the SEC been challenged on allowing the illegal play? Lane is a punk. He shouldn't be allowed to cheat and prance around like a Kansas City happy man

Run a trick play on special teams to shake things up in a close game. If it works, you get all the momentum and usually win the game. I've been told the Furman transfer punter is one of the best athletes on the team. Why not run a fake punt and let him run or have him hold for a field goal and let him run? What's the point of having a very athletic player at a position and not taking advantage of it at last once?! Nik looks like he has concrete shoes when he runs so that would be a no-go.

I would love jet sweeps or more of anything using Ainias Smith out of the backfield in motion as well. He just makes it happen!

Our trick plays normally go about like whatever the hell that play was that Max fumbled on the last drive against Ole Miss.

So we should probably just avoid them at all cost.

That's a horribly written rule, not sure how you enforce that consistently. I think it's dumb they banned it in the first place. Deception is part of sports and there are a ton of trick plays in football that attempt to exploit the defense not paying attention. Solution is teach the defensive players to pay attention and be ready for such trickery.
