Dude hasn't been a good "for average" punter from day one. He's very good at spinning one down inside the opponent's 10. That's about it. He couldn't uncork a 60 yd field flipper if you gave him all day.

I asked him about it over a beer at the Chicken:

"Chin up, mate! Jest goin through a bit of a phase."

I then asked him about hang time:

"HANG time!??? I'm still tryin' to master your Central Time!"

Well, also, your balls are getting shorter and shorter.

"No mate, that's just this new material they make our pants out of."

Fine, so there's no problem with your punting?

"Honestly, mate, I took the summer off when I found out we hired Bobby."

A start like this against an inferior opponent coming off a bye week just reeks of poor preparation, poor motivation, and lack of commitment.

It's time for an up-and-comer. He may see TAMU as a stepping stone, but that means he is striving for greatness. Then, you pay him to stay because of what he's done instead of paying him to leave for what he's done.
This kind of post reeks of thoughtless repetition of narratives. Our punter was all-SEC last year. Start there and try not using a media or fan narrative to explain…

He has regressed each year as most Aussies do. Time for a change or at least try something different to shake things up like maybe try the athletic punter transfer Tumey on a fake punt to shake things up. What's been called is just not working. Same old, same old.

His technique is wrong. His foot needs to be pointed straight down the field and not with toes up. That is why he kicks so high but not long. Also it makes the ball go off like a shank. I do not know who is coaching but this is basic.

Coverage teams should share a measure of blame, too. A punter is only as good as his coverage team; if they're terrible, he can drop it deep all he wants and the other team will just rip off a 25 yard return. From what I can gather they're not covering any kind of kick very well anymore.

Cannot truly believe we are still playing him. We will not win a defensive struggle with him punting as we lose entirely too much hidden yardage. The Tennessee game is the classic example. We averaged 10-20 yards less each time we punted because their punter was much better.

Idk he used to be pretty solid, is jimbo telling him to prioritize hang time over distance or something?

No.... Jimbo's telling him all he needs to do is "execute"....

Nik is typically fine when not rushed. When rushed, he gets off those 30 yard liners. Between watching those 30 yard liners and Tyler's numerous shanks in warm-ups, brutal to watch our punting at the games. I feel for our defense.

Whew! THAT'S a relief. The problem is with our failure to ask the defenders to please cut it out!

So…oh caustic one…that all you got? Great punter becomes terrible. Lean in and take time and understand why instead of just chirping.

I'll note that the gladhanded excuses are…ahem…manifold. If pass protection is leaky then less practiced punt protection could be easy to explain. The general notion kicking specialists have private coaches might not span a busy season well. Could even be homesick.

But the notion Fisher forgot how to punt is just lame.
