Jaylon Hurts and Dak Prescott have the QB sneak mastered.
The line forms a scrum and pushes the QB tush 1 yard.
How hard is this play to do?
Had A&M built a play like it, they likely would have 1 less loss maybe 2.
We used to do it when the Maroon Goones were the Maroon Goones with Big Kellen Mond.

We now have the Maroon Buffoons, dude.

I'm sure we'd practice it really well.
But in crunch time when it comes time to execute, I'm sure we'd F up the snap, get blown backwards, step on the QB's foot, and end up with a 2 yd loss.
And that's if we don't have a false start beforehand.

Until OL coaching changes and/or these youngsters get a chance to grow into seasoned upperclassmen (like the Goons), the Benny Hill music will continue to play, the country can grab their popcorn, and everyone can enjoy some hellagood shiitshow comedy out of it

Nah, Jimbo (I mean Petrino) prefers to line up in the shotgun on 4th and 1 and throw a flat route that's double covered. Either that or do the old "trip the quarterback when your center drops into pass protection" play from under center.

Max Johnson is listed at 6'6" and 235lbs. There's no way he's big enough to get half a yard on a QB sneak, that's just crazy talk.

You forgot Foster tripping over everyone or tripping adjacent linemen.

that's borderline impossible on a QB sneak. Jimbo is too goofy to QB sneak for a 1st down tho. It'd be too easy.

Yeah we don't do those things called good plays

The Eagles run it on 4th and 1 because they know they can get the 1 yard over 90% of the time. Our performance in short yardage makes me question if we could do it even half the time.

Being able to run, the ball is an important part of winning

It's a stupid play.

Our RBs need to hit the line hard and keep their legs driving. Our backs do not slam into the line. They hit, lean, etc. Same with our OL for they do not keep their legs moving with their butts low. They lean into a D lineman and do not drive through the block.

But teams would have done it to us on 4th and 1 also.

So it's a, "Push"

Perfect example was 5:20 left in the first half against Tenn. We go for it on 4th and 1 and Tenn has no one over the center and our QB trips over the line's feet. Even the commentators called it out. Even the most basic QB sneak would have gotten a yard there.

looks like the RG actually steps on Max's foot

Same difference. It also looked like Tenn knew exactly what play we were running.

I'm positive the lineman have never considered just pushing the other guy backwards. This is a true revelation in football and I hope our players read this groundbreaking concept of offensive line play. "Just push them back", truly revolutionary and right here where all the experts congregate.

It's amazing that our high school coach back in the 90s trusted us enough to call a sneak in any situation where we had an advantage like that, but we don't trust a division 1 QB and center to do the same. Or, do we trust them and they're not competent enough to make that read and call it?

There's a whole thread on this.
By alignment Tenn was baiting us and hoping for a QB sneak.
The play that was called was actually correct for the situation, and had 14 not been tripped up by his own OLine, it likely pops for a pretty big gain

But that is the issue... we try and make things too hard when simply moving the chains is all that is needed. No need to scheme a big gain in that situation. If you are truly of the philosophy of doing the simple things right Jimbo should have QB sneak it there instead he tried to show how "smart" he is and outthink the bait.

Nobody's scheming for the big gain there. But if you watch what happens after the snap, that's likely what happens.
Tenn was setup to bait a QB sneak. They wanted us to run one. They know the situation, and they're inviting it on purpose.
DTs are wide, but angled to pinch at the snap. They shoot and wrap/lock the center's legs.
When the QB can't go forward, the LB is there to bust him in the mouth when he tries to go over the top.

They have coaches too. And you can bet they rep that play, and that setup.
Even high schools rep that setup.

The fact the announcers make reference to how inviting the D setup was for a QB sneak just speaks more and more to how clueless most announcers are.

Granted, baited or not, they've still gotta stop it. But we were set to run a lead play right off that pinching DT's ass. And we'd have had numbers to that side too.
