Arguably Jimbos has excelled like no other by doing less with more.

So, Jim evidently has great expertise in his expert ability to do less with more.

I'm just saying the situation after 6 yrs with Sumlin was worse than with Jimbo. Your point about what he's doing with those players is well taken and I agree.

Let's see how the season pans out. I could see ags with a decent record at the end of the year, some bowl and then springboard into next year. All those 5* dl will be vying for NFL and we should have more experience on oline. Qb1 will be back as well. Maybe some new coaches.

But here's the deal.

The Aggies will always be a middle-of-the-pack type program.

That's our DNA.

You could hire 1993 Jimmy Johnson or 1979 Bear Bryant and the result would be the same.

Ironic that Jimbo's best years were with Sumlin's recruits, and Sumin's best years were with Sherman's recruits.


Sherman was probably the last coach that could recruit better than his predecessor AND get those recruits to play at a higher level. He just wasn't great at managing a game.

yes, he could assemble offensive talent, but his defensive recruiting was close to absymal

remember that Von was a Fran recruit / player

and since Mack Brown was mentioned earlier...

never forget the amount of talent Makovic left for Mack in 1998

Jimbo Fisher is basically Mack Brown at texas. Mack was an elite recruiter that never won anything of note........until 2005. Maybe Jimbo will have his own 2005.

Something else they have in common is both always had one or two position groups that were giant holes that other teams exploited. The only difference now is that Jimbo's strong position groups are a lot better than most any that Sumlin had.

I don't think that was the case at all. We were decent. Here are the national ranking stats from his last 2 yrs and 1st under Sumlin which were most all Sherman players:

2011 we had some bad collapses which cause him his job, but the talent i don't think was the issue. that was an aberration as you can see 2010 and 2012 were very good and very close

what about the NFL draft?

all-american teams...all-conference teams

Damontre Moore was a 3rd round pick -- had a few good years in the NFL

Sean Porter was a 4th round pick -- likewise had a few good years in the league

T. Frederick was a 7th round pick

DeShazor Everett -- undrafted

I think those were the only Sherman defensive recruits...4 out of 40+ defensive signees -- that got drafted and/or spent several years in the league of note

the Ags basically have to win out for Jimbo to finish with a higher winning % than Sumlin after 6 years
