Jimbo may be a sheetty coach, but he's one helluva negotiator.
The guaranteed money for his contract is absurd.

Kevin Sumlin is a good coach. ... He's a good negotiator, too. He's got a good deal.
There were about two people that didn't think this was a bargain, and it's well known that I was one. You'd get the message board equivalent of tarred and feathered if you didn't follow the company line about Jimbo. Especially by one dude that seems to have vanished of late, seems he got tired of being wrong for a living.aggiegolfer2012 said:

This is a tough one for he has recruited well overall. His problem is his stubbornness. In red zone play he is bad due to play design and play calling. That alone lost this game. On D he sucks at making in game adjustments. In third quarter we should have continued to blitz the qb.
Jimbo the person, zero problems with. We're the dumbasses that went and did this, and then paraded him out as our "National Championships" coach. And then, when nobody was after him (I don't care what people say about Woodward), we competed against that no one and extended him. You didn't have to do that, but it's what A&M does 10/10 times. Schloss is a perfect example, year one goes to the WS, start building his statue and back up the Brinks truck, of course we fall back to the pack in year 2. I like Schloss, but there are some concerning parallels. Sharp and his cronies can't see the forest for the trees. Jimbo got more love from losing to Clemson, losing! There's probably only one fan base that would fall for that. Instead of going out and getting a coach, we should go money-whip an NFL GM and let him call the shots. And he should not listen to one Alum, other than for money. We've proved we don't know how to pick coaches around here.Hawk2007 said:SinKiller said:There were about two people that didn't think this was a bargain, and it's well known that I was one. There were definitely people that posted concerns about Jimbo during the initial announcement as HC and then during the extension, but they were largely ignored or blasted for not understanding that this is how you win championships in 2023.... and which other HC that has won a Natty could we get?
From my non lawyer viewpoint, Jimbo has carried out the terms of the contract he signed with us. I may not like some of his answers at pressers, but he does answer the questions to what he believes is right and in a professional manner.
His main problem is he is 27-1 with Jameis Winston and average without him.Houstonag said:

Except your analysis is just arguing with no one. You can't change anything and lack the commitment and money to pay for the change. And you're wrong. Jimbo's 2020 season was 9-1 with Mond and the best outcome since 1939. And we know what happened in 2021 and 2022 and story arc to CW's first healthy season is visible and credible.SinKiller said:Jimbo the person, zero problems with. It really took hardly any due-diligence to see that emperor had no clothes with Jimbo. He got extended because of the Orange Bowl, which we were lucky as hell to win. The one real good team we played that year throttled us. We didn't deserve the playoff, and would have got our clocks cleaned if we snuck in somehow. I think you just come out and make a statement that Jimbo is the coach and will be the coach for years to come. And then, just hope we get lucky. The one potential problem you're gonna have in the near future, is a bunch of empty suites. These bandwagon hoppers will leave as soon as the next loss, and then you've got a problem on your hands. But again, we did all of this to ourselves. You took the magic of Kyle Field and turned it in to NRG at College Station. You took one of the fiercest places to play and turned it in to a country club. You literally killed the home field advantage that Kyle was. The people saying Kyle at night is magical, are people that haven't been to a home game in 10 years.
It was the best outcome and one win from a cfp invite. You literally are just downplaying it to preen to the other virtue signaling internet tough guys.Aggie Dad Sip said:
The extension after the Covid season was the problem. That year to me was like a strike shortened NFL season. No one is ever going to put the same value on that season as a normal one. We shouldn't have either.
He's recruited terrible at DB and OL…you can't win by ignoring certain positions and being unable to manage your roster in age of portal (in & out) after you fail to recruit the HS ranks properly.Houstonag said:

He has recruited well because of NIL and certainly not his personality .Houstonag said:
