Because the original WC wasn't built on the backs of 4 games against bad teams while getting shredded by the only good one they faced.

The WC grew out of sustained excellence. How about give me a few more great games against Bama/Tenn/Ole Piss before we get caught up in it? Loving the last 2 or 3 games but I wanna see them sustain it before I crown them king

Yes, they were. The SWC was great, but we were playing Rice, UofH, TCU, and Tech. We weren't playing championship caliber teams on an almost weekly basis.

Not to mention that offenses have changed drastically since the '90s and aren't as one dimensional. Likewise, defensive packages are more robust and complicated.

From what I remember back in '02, we yelled "Wreck-ing Crew! Wreck-ing Crew! Wreck-ing Crew!" and threw up the WC hand sign after every big defensive play.

Some of y'all are getting old.

It's about a mentality of aggressive defense that dictates what happens when they are in the field. I would say 14 sacks in 2 week's against Arky and Auburn more than qualifies. I hope they keep it up this weekend.

This was back when the average score was around 25 points per team, about a touchdown lower than today.

That SMU game was all on RC. The offense sucked ass that game. I was there and A&M was fortunate to come out with a tie. RC was known to crap the bed against inferior teams.

The yell was introduced in 97 or 98 -- when I was a student. It was dumb then, and it would be dumb now. I'm all for the return of the Wrecking Crew, but please let that yell die.

The chant should be "tackle, tackle the ball carrier". The wrecking crew was an aggressive defense that set the tone of the game in all phases not just a pass rush. The play of the secondary is no where close to the wrecking crew.

I don't think OP knows much about football, much less Aggie football history.
