Yep talking heads are pushing a weak SEC narrative.
b/c so far the SEC does look weak this year.
SEC OOC P5 wins this year
Missouri at home over Kansas State (3-1) 30-27 via a 61 yard FG as time ran out
Tennessee vs Virginia (0-4) 49-13 who is still reeling from 3 players being murdered and 2 others injured during a shooting by a former player on a bus coming back to campus from a school trip to DC last year
Auburn at Cal (2-2) 14-10 who currently has former A&M OC Jake Spavital in his first year as their OC
Ole Miss at Georgia Tech (2-2) 48-23 led by Haynes King and is the same team that blew a 28-13 halftime lead to Louisville. Also have a win over Tulane 37-20 but... Tulane didn't have their starting QB and even then the game was just 20-17 OM w/8 minutes left in the 4th before the Wave completely self destructed w/turnovers and a way too early botched onside kick.
Miss State at home over Arizona (3-1) 31-24 in OT whose best win is 21-20 over a 1-3 Stanford that lost at home 30-23 to Sacramento State
P5 losses
A&M in Miami (4-0) 48-33 in a game where Miami did whatever they wanted on offense.
Bama at home to the sips (4-0) 34-24 where Milroe played so poorly he was benched for the next game
Florida at Utah (4-0) 24-11 who beat the Gators w/a 3rd string walk on as their starter (ACL recovery) and backup (lacerated liver) were both out
USCe vs UNC (4-0) 34-17 in a game that was all but over by the 4th quarter
Vandy at Wake Forest (3-1) 36-20 Vandy followed this up w/a loss at UNLV 40-37
LSU vs Florida State (4-0) 45-24 where FSU outscored LSU 31-7 in the second half
Arkansas at home to BYU (3-1) 38-31 where BYU offense had their way w/the Pigs after only being able to score 14 against Sam Houston
You forgot to include Tennessee's 49-13 rout of Virginia in Week 1 and the final score of South Carolina vs North Carolia was 31-17. But I agree that the SEC looks weak this year. The SEC is currently 5-7 against Power 5 nonconference opponents, including 2-5 against ACC and 1-2 against the Big 12. 3 of those wins were by 7 points or less, and 6 of the 7 losses were by double digits.
I must have accidentally deleted the Tennessee/UVA bit when I went back to edit b/c I know I wrote about Virginia being 0-4 and still looking lost likely in part b/c of the lingering feelings towards losing the players who were shot to death on a UVA school bus by a former player several months ago.
The SEC being down is part of what's so frustrating about or no show in the second half of the Miami game. It's wide open and ready for the taking but our secondary looks worse than it's been in years and for whatever reason Durkin has been married to trying to get to the QB w/very little extra pressure.
