Max looked good in replacing Conner Weigman. He completed 20/31 pass attempts for 226 yards with 4 TDs and no INTs, and QBR of 168.3. If he leads us to wins over Arkansas and Alabama, we definitely need to start him in a road game at Tennessee, who will be coming off a bye week. Jimbo Fisher and Bobby Petrino should not rush Conner Weigman back into the starting lineup before our bye week in week 7.
Conner is without a doubt the better QB. Max is good. Conner is better. Great to have both...but when Conner is healthy to play he should start regardless what happens the next few weeks. Conner is not going to suddenly become the back up.

That being said it would be a great problem to have if Max can lead us to wins the next two weeks. I think we'd all be very happy to have that argument then.

Jimbo says that it is not a high ankle sprain, just a small sprain with some swelling.

On first view I thought it was a high ankle sprain. This is way different from a standard in or out ligament ankle sprain. Hello at least 6 weeks out if it is a high ankle sprain

Right, for folks that are losing the context, a reporter asked Jimbo, "is it a high ankle sprain?" Jimbo responded, "it is not a high ankle sprain."

So Saturday we hear the x-ray is negative and today we hear it is not a high ankle sprain. So if neither of those what is it?

"X-ray negative" usually means that there isn't a fracture and little else. You typically need an MRI to assess a soft tissue injury.

I am stunned to see such a minimal reaction to the news of CW's injury. NOT a high ankle sprain! This is fantastic and should be celebrated appropriately. What's wrong with you people?

The obvious benefit of keeping the uncertainty alive is the onus upon Arky to hafta prepare for both possibilities. I approve.

For me, it's the expectation that he's going to miss several games (if not the majority) regardless of what is reported, due to the lack of forthcoming-ness I've seen from reporting.

The injury happened Saturday. The Head Coach says it's a simple ankle sprain on Monday. What else do you want?

Sorry if I missed it in this or some other thread. But reviewing the game on DVR, it seemed to me CW was already taped up a lot at the start of the game and may have tweaked it in practice? Maybe simply out of abundance of caution, since the flow of the game was already in hand, they benched CW (implication it is merely a slight sprain that will heal quickly).

After you play long enough you never get optimistic about injury return timelines. If you are injured for 4 weeks you often need to get some strength back and knock some of the cobwebs off so 6 weeks is more realistic for a full return. Ankle and hamstring injuries can linger, if Johnson is playing well and we are winning they may not rush him back

How is he day to day with high ankle sprain? If he has that, he shouldn't be able to play Saturday.

Has there been an updated timeframe this week for when Connor will be back?

Jimbo said day-to-day. So he might be back this weekend.

Jimbo probably got a delay of game before even answering the question.

True Texan did. I trust his word over Jimbo's personally.

Really hope Conner is back for Bama. Max is capable of not losing a game, but he's just a guy. Conner is the guy we need under center if we are going to make a serious run at this thing.

My realistic (pessimistic) expectation is he's back after the bye.

I'm afraid our chances of beating Arkansas go way down if CW can't play.

Max just takes too many sacks; drive killers.

That's a flat out lie on QBR unless perhaps you're talking about just SEC games which would be a pretty ridiculous stat after one game - half a game really

Sacks are Max's thing? That's a blocking issue

IMO, from watching the clip of the play over and over, seems obvious it's not a high ankle sprain like you'd get when getting rolled up on. To me, he's hit with his leg planted and that force could've caused some kind of small fracture. IF* so, those are usually lengthy, non weight bearing injuries, that don't require surgery. That non weight bearing is typically 8-12 weeks.

Fingers crossed that's not the case here.

I'm fearing that it could be something worse than a high ankle sprain like a fracture as you mentioned.

X-rays were negative. It's reported as a normal sprain.

And now it's a frickin broken talus! Damn that's the worst injury possible in this case. Good luck with recovery CW. Max is the man for the rest of the season. Gig 'em! Let's go!
