I speak German and if you pronounced it like it would be in German, it would be V-EYE-G-man. With the a sounding like the a in father.
For whatever reason most of the German last names in Texas pronounce it differently, as if they dropped the first vowel in the double-vowel cluster. So Weigman is "wigman". No clue how that evolved but that's how it typically is.
That reminds me of a definition of a committee.Aggie Dad Sip said:
Most tv broadcasters say Wegman. I'm convinced it's Veegman, but I've never heard Conner or his family say it themselves so it could be anything. Back in the 60s Joe Theisman was pronounced Theesman until the SID for Notre Dame changed it to rhyme with Heisman. I noticed yesterday on the radio broadcast that Monaco, Elmendorf and Johnson were just calling him Conner a lot. I just typed a buttload of words to say, "I don't know."
To be fair, Weigman has a strange accent.Only Fans Director said:
Let's put this to rest.
It is pronounced, wig-man.
Looch interviews him in the below video. I am sure he confirmed his last name pronunciation as in interviewer.
Also, when Looch introduced him as Conner WWIG-MAN, he didn't correct him.
